The First Team face new HPL leaders Chalk Lane this Saturday with a totally new-look management set-up, following the somewhat dramatic and disappointing events of recent weeks. Tony Hunt’s ongoing completion of a move back to Reckitts and Dave Walmsley’s decision to stand down with immediate effect has robbed Manager Mack of both his assistants. Indeed, given coach Dan Potts’ earlier departure, Mack has now lost the full “backroom staff” he appointed in the summer! Ironically the manager himself also misses this Saturday’s game due to holidays, so team affairs are in the hands of reserve team boss Craig Smalley, John Clarke and skipper Neil Rutter.
Squad-wise, the loss of both players will be keenly felt in what is now a very youthful senior squad. Anthony Barnett is also absent this weekend but Kevin Appleyard, Gavin Thurkettle, Craig Havercroft and James Mee are all over recent injuries and should come back into the reckoning.
Smalley’s absence leaves assistant Darren Dawson in sole charge of the Reserves as they head off to face another of the Premier Division’s early pacesetters, Wawne Ferry. Meanwhile, the Casuals are at home for a fourth successive week. They host promotion-chasing Roos on the “Pitch Across The Ditch”.
Belated congratulations to Andrew “Biff” McNaught who recently became the third member of the current United squad to reach 600 appearances. He joins John Clarke and older brother Iain in the “exclusive” Sexagenarian Set!
Finally, training continues at Withernsea High School Sports Hall every Wednesday (8pm-9pm).
