AN awful first half performance effectively consigned Easington United to their first defeat of the season in the Humber Premier League at Beverley Town last Saturday.
Poor defending allowed Mike O’Connell and Rich Durham to head Town into a two-goal lead inside twenty minutes and only some superb goalkeeping from Kevin Appleyard ensured things were not even worse.
A much improved second half showing saw Gavin Thurkettle first have one “goal” disallowed before eventually reducing arrears with over half an hour to go.
But as Easington pressed for an equaliser, Beverley wasted several gilt-edged chances on the counter before sealing matters with a controversial third goal just seven minutes from time.
Having gone into the game without five of the previous week’s squad, manager Dave Mackay-Dundas is unlikely to benefit from any returns ahead of Saturday’s home match with Hornsea Town, with the possible exception of Kevin Milner who was absent at Beverley due to work commitments.
In the ER County League last Saturday the Eastenders Reserves and Casuals completed a bad day for the Club. In the Premier Division Jimmy Neilson gave the Reserves a first half lead at home to Viking Raiders only for the Goole side to come back and win 3-1. Meanwhile the Casuals slid to a second successive 3-2 defeat in Division 4, goals from Daniel Campbell and Rich Clubley proving in vain at Howden Town.
This weekend the Reserves travel to Howden Amateurs in the League Senior Cup while the Casuals entertain Brandesburton 3rds in the Harold Robinson Cup.

CLUB NOTES
Selection doesn’t get any easier for Dave Mackay-Dundas ahead of this weekend’s home game with Hornsea Town. In addition to the holidaying Stu Campbell and Chris Frost, skipper Neil Rutter is still sidelined by injury, Ollie Musgrove is working and player/asst-mgr Tony Hunt is also doubtful. With the manager himself now away on a week’s break, Dave Walmsley takes the reins and should at least hope to welcome Kevin Milner back into the fold.
The Reserves and Casuals are both in County League Cup action on Saturday. In the League Senior Cup the Reserves travel to Howden Amateurs while at Low Farm the Casuals entertain Brandesburton 3rds in the Harold Robinson Memorial Cup.
The draw for the first round of the East Riding Senior Cup has given Easington an away tie at Pocklington Town on Saturday, 11th October. No details of either the Senior Country (Reserves) or Junior Country Cup (Casuals) draws are as yet available.
Horses are now on sale for the Eastenders “Race Night” in The Granby Inn on Saturday, 18th October. They can be obtained from members of the Club Committee.
