GOALS from Gavin Thurkettle, Jamie Cousins, Craig Lenham and James Mee helped Easington United give Dan Potts the near-perfect send-off in his final game for the club.
The Eastenders beat Westella & Willerby 4-1 at Low Farm to maintain their impressive start to the season.
However, victory came at some cost. Kevin Appleyard was forced off after just 13mins with a neck injury and club captain Neil Rutter is probably looking at a fortnight’s absence having come off before half-time with hamstring trouble.
With Stuart Campbell and Chris Frost now on holiday for two weeks and Potts away for good, manager Dave Mackay-Dundas faces some difficult selection issues ahead of a tough looking trip to Beverley Town on Saturday.
On the plus side, Mackay-Dundas will hope to have Tony Hunt, Dave Walmsley, Danny Medforth and Ollie Musgrove all back in contention.
Still, Easington will go to Norwood Park with spirits high after an excellent showing against Westella. Thurkettle set the ball rolling on 20 minutes with Cousins firing home an emphatic second at the start of the second half. Both goals were the product of neat approach play and the same can be said of the third and fourth, which came courtesy of headers from Lenham and Mee.
In the County League the Eastenders Reserves’ trip to VIP Communications fell victim to a waterlogged pitch in Cottingham, while an injury time goal consigned the Casuals to a 3-2 defeat in their Division 4 opener at home to Holme Rovers Reserves. Andy Milbank and James Rice were Easington's scorers.

CLUB NOTES
First Team boss Dave Mackay-Dundas has several selection problems ahead of Saturday’s trip to Beverley Town. In addition to the departing Potts, Stu Campbell and Chris Frost are on holiday while both Saturday’s injury victims – Appleyard and Rutter – are serious doubts. On the plus side, Tony Hunt, Dave Walmsley, Danny Medforth and Ollie Musgrove should all be in contention for places.
Having seen their trip to VIP Communications washed out last week, incoming Reserves management duo Craig Smalley and Darren Dawson’s first competitive match in charge should come at home to Viking Raiders this Saturday in the County League Premier Division. In Division 4 the Casuals go to Howden Town.
Our congratulations go to Ricky & Danielle Biglin on the birth of daughter Megan last week. In addition, our best wishes go to “laundry lady” Dora Law during her current hospitalisation.
Thanks to G.R.D. Engineering Ltd for Saturday’s match sponsorship and the rest of their very generous 2008/09 package. Our thanks also go to Bonus Electrical, Technostics and Kamto Cheng for their “package deals” this season and those other businesses/individuals who’ve already pledged support.
The Eastenders are holding a “Race Night” in The Granby Inn on Saturday, 18th October. Any potential Race sponsors are advised to ring 01964 650376.
