A TRIP to North Ferriby United Reserves greets Easington United on their return to Humber Premier League action this Saturday.
The Eastenders were without a fixture last weekend and come into the game having dropped their first points of the season last time out. This came via a 2-2 draw at Malet Lambert YC, in which Easington were thankful to substitute Paul Farndale’s goal that rescued a point for the visitors with virtually the last kick of the game.
Earlier Lee Carr’s spectacularly headed ‘own goal’ had given Easington an early lead only for Matty Wise and Simon Spencer to turn the game on its head before half-time.
However, overshadowing the result was the controversial second half dismissal of Neil Rutter. The Eastenders skipper saw red for the first time in his playing career following an incident involving Malet’s Steven Ratcliffe. Ten minutes later the home player joined Rutter on the sidelines following a second yellow card.
Although disappointed with his team’s overall display, Easington manager Dave Mackay-Dundas was pleased with the spirit and has urged his players to use the game as a “wake up call” after three successive wins had had some of them possibly “believing their own press”.
Craig Lenham, James Mee and Darren Thompson could all come into contention for places at Ferriby after all three missed the draw at Malet.
The Eastenders Reserves wound up their preparations for the new County League season with an 8-4 win over Roos in the annual Barney Moverley Memorial game.
