EASINGTON United open their 2008/09 Humber Premier League campaign at home to St Andrews Police Club on Saturday with manager Dave Mackay-Dundas acknowledging that his new-look side may well take some time to settle down.
Prior to Monday night’s final warm-up game at Brandesburton, the Eastenders had already used 23 players in just three matches and the manager had admitted he was “open-minded as to what the first starting line-up will be”.
Barring any misfortune at Catwick Lane on Monday, at least Mackay-Dundas has no real injury worries ahead of the first league game although goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard missed last week’s defeat by the ER County FA Juniors with a slight knee problem.
His replacement, teenager Danny Cable, did well but was powerless to prevent goals from Joe Foster and Courtney Tarbottom securing victory for the visitors after Gavin Thurkettle's header had given Easington a third minute lead.
The visit of First Division champions St Andrews is Easington’s only home game in the first five fixtures of the new campaign. Next Wednesday sees them make the short trip to Hedon Rangers with games at Pocklington Town, Malet Lambert and North Ferriby Utd Reserves to follow.
Meanwhile the Eastenders Reserves were set to open up their pre-season schedule against Hedon Rangers last night (Tuesday) and have forthcoming fixtures at home to Hedon United on Monday and FC Corner Bar the following Saturday.
This evening (Wednesday) sees the Club hold its Annual General Meeting in The Neptune Inn, with the chair being taken at 8.30pm.

Prior to Monday night’s final warm-up game at Brandesburton, the Eastenders had already used 23 players in just three matches and the manager had admitted he was “open-minded as to what the first starting line-up will be”.
Barring any injuries picked up by those involved for the Reserves on Tuesday, he does at least have no serious injury worries ahead of the first league game, although goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard had been hampered slightly by a knee problem.
The Eastenders Reserves were due to entertain Hedon Rangers Reserves on Tuesday and next Monday they play host to Hedon United, a game originally scheduled for Drapers Lane (6.30pm).
Away from the action the Club were presented with their County and Regional awards at the KC Stadium last Saturday at Hull City’s friendly with Osasuna. County Development Manager Adam Lowthorpe and Finance Director John Breckon presented the awards to Eastenders General Manager Richard Lusmore and Development Coach Daniel Campbell prior to kick-off.
Last night saw the Club hold its Annual General Meeting at The Neptune Inn, a brief resume of which will appear in next week’s Gazette.
Finally, a reminder that the Eastenders 100 Club kicks off again on 26 August; if you’ve not received an application form but would like to join, please ring 01964 650376.
