Holderness Advertiser 6th August
EASINGTON United undertake their third friendly of the current pre-season on Thursday when they entertain the East Riding County FA Juniors at Low Farm (kick-off 7.00pm).
Eastenders manager Dave Mackay-Dundas will hope to cast his eye over a couple more potential new signings while, at the same time, begin to form some idea of the side he’ll put out when the Humber Premier League season begins in just over a week’s time.
With just one more fixture, away at Brandesburton, before the Eastenders entertain newly promoted St Andrews Police Club on Saturday, 16 August, Mackay-Dundas will also be looking for a win after successive defeats against Yorkshire Penny and Sheffield FC.
Although emphasising that results are not the be-all and end-all at this time, the manager knows that wins are the best way to build momentum and confidence ahead of the coming campaign.
While United head for Brandesburton on Monday, 11 August to conclude their pre-season preparations, the same evening sees their Low Farm Recreation & Sports Ground plays host to the Holderness Cup Winners Cup Final. South Holderness Cup winners Hedon Rangers “host” their north Holderness Tanton Cup counterparts Hornsea Town in the second playing of the competition that was won by the Eastenders in its inaugural year. Kick-off is at 6.45pm with admission £1.00 by programme. All proceeds go to the Hornsea Cottage Hospital.

Final chance to impress for Easington hopefuls
EASINGTON United’s senior squad complete their pre-season preparations with two games inside five days, beginning with the visit of the East Riding County FA Juniors representative squad to Low Farm this evening (7.00pm).
It’s the first visit by Andy Foster’s side for a number of years and has in the past proved a very beneficial exercise for both parties.
Following this game, United travel to Catwick Lane on Monday to face HPL Division 1 side Brandesburton (6.30pm).
These fixtures, plus a Reserve team match against Hedon Rangers next Tuesday, provide the last opportunity for Easington manager Dave Mackay-Dundas to run the rule over his potential squad for the season’s opener at home to St Andrews Police Club on Saturday week. They will also give the members of his squad their final chance to impress and try to force their way into contention.
However, the boss is keen for players not to read too much into selection, saying, “I might field two completely different teams in both games and also ask Craig Smalley to give several lads a run on Tuesday. It’s fair to say at this moment that Dave, Tony & I are open-minded as to what our first starting line-up will be.”
Mack is looking to include at least one new face this evening, while he also hopes to have Craig Lenham available for the first time this summer. Also back in contention for spots are Dan Potts, Darren Thompson, Ollie Musgrove and assistant-boss Tony Hunt after all four missed the Sheffield FC game.
Unavailable tonight are asst-boss Dave Walmsley (work) and Paul Morrow, the youngster have decided against rejoining the club this season.
The only injury concerns are over goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard (knee) and Danny Collier although the latter did manage a full ninety minutes for his Sunday side at the weekend.
There is a match programme on sale this evening and the Club wishes to again thank The Crown & Anchor at Kilnsea for their kind support of the pre-season schedule.
CLUB NOTES
Pre-Season training continues at Low Farm every Wednesday until further notice.
The next football at Low Farm is the Holderness Cup Winners Cup Final (see separate piece) which takes place on Monday, 11 August (6.30pm). The following night sees the Eastenders Reserves, under the new management of Craig Smalley and Darren Dawson, entertain their Hedon Rangers counterparts in a friendly (6.30pm).
The Reserves have penciled in a fixture against Hedon United for Monday, 18 August but the choice of venue – Drapers Lane – is in doubt and the game may be switched to Low Farm (check out the Club web site for latest news).
The Casuals have provisionally arranged to meet Hedon Rangers Juniors at the Destiny Fitness Ground but a date still has to be finalised; similarly, there could well be a first outing for the “Awd Ezzies” Veterans section following talks with a similar new set-up at Eldons FC. Again, check out our web site for latest developments.
A reminder: the Eastenders’ Annual General Meeting takes place on Wednesday, 13 August in The Neptune Inn (8.30pm).
The Eastenders 100 Club kicks off again on 26 August; if you’ve not received an application form but would like to join, please ring 01964 650376.

Low Farm stages “Holderness summit meeting”
NEXT Monday (11 August) sees the second Holderness Cup Winners Cup Final take place at the Low Farm Recreation & Sports Ground, Easington (by kind permission of the Easington Rec. & Sports Association).
South Holderness Cup winners Hedon Rangers play “host” to their north Holderness Tanton Cup-winning counterparts Hornsea Town to decide the borough’s bragging rights for 2008!
Rangers clinched their first ever win in the South Holderness Cup with victory over their Reserves in a historic all-Hedon final at Withernsea and will be looking to keep the trophy in the south, following Easington’s win at North Frodingham last year.
Opponents Hornsea boast an impressive recent record in the Tanton Cup, with four wins in the last five years. They clinched their latest courtesy of a 2-0 win over Long Riston at Brandesburton and come to Low Farm looking to compensate for their disappointment in last year’s inaugural game, when they lost out on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Admission for the Final is by programme (available for £1.00 at the gate) with all proceeds going to the Hornsea Cottage Hospital (the charity of choice for the Tanton Cup Committee).
