Holderness Advertiser 20th February
A PULSATING game at Low Farm saw Easington United overcome the first half dismissal of goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard to fight back from two down and force a draw against Hutton Cranswick.
Indeed, the Eastenders were left frustrated at the end that they hadn't actually won the game; they had the better of the chances in the second half with Stuart Campbell striking the woodwork and Ollie Musgrove being denied by Cranswick goalkeeper Matthew Cox when clean through.
The visitors established a 2-0 lead inside the opening quarter of an hour, through goals from Paul Taylor and Alex Gibson, before Jon-Paul Johnson reduced arrears with a spectacular curling effort from thirty yards on 33mins.
However, any hopes Easington had of completing the comeback appeared to have gone with the dismissal of Appleyard a minute before the break for denying a goal scoring opportunity when he impeded Jimmy Syme's run on goal.
But just three minutes into the second period it was visiting goalkeeper Cox who played the villain, carrying the ball over the line from Musgrove's attempted chip. The assistant-referee signalled the goal and prompted one of the more entertaining halves of football seen at Low Farm all season.
The result extended Easington's recent run to just one defeat in seven league games. They now face two successive away trips with manager Dave Mackay-Dundas hoping to have skipper Neil Rutter and joint top scorer Steve Harrod back for the first of them this Saturday at Malet Lambert.
In the County League, the Eastenders Reserves and Casuals both went down to defeat. The Reserves lost 2-4 at Beverley Town Reserves in the Premier Division, Chris Frost and Adam Metcalf on target, while the Casuals slipped to a third successive 0-4 defeat in Division 4, Brandesburton 3rds leaving Low Farm with the points.

CLUB NOTES
The Eastenders play the first of two successive away games on Saturday when they go to Malet Lambert YC. Mack’s side have already won once at the venue this season, in the ER Senior Cup, but Malet are in fine form at the moment and boast recent victories over Westella and Hedon. Mack should be able to welcome Neil Rutter and Steve Harrod back into the ranks with Kevin Milner returning to duty with Scarborough.
In the County League Premier Division, the Reserves entertain Viking Raiders on the Main Pitch at Low Farm with manager Mike Wilson requiring a goalkeeper in the wake of both Craig Pickersgill and Chris Rawlings’ decisions to call it a day. Otherwise, he may well be tempted to stick with those on duty at Beverley as the Stiffs again look to put points between themselves and Holme Rovers.
The Casuals are also at home this weekend. They entertain Eastrington Village on “The Pitch Across The Ditch” with Trevor & Ricky Biglin, Iain McNaught and Aiden O’Hara all missing, while Tom McLaughlin must be considered doubtful due to injury. Chairman Clubley will therefore look to have John Clarke, Chris Smith, Nibs Carrick and Will Ineson all available again for selection.
The winning Golden Goal time on Saturday was 8 minutes. The Club would like to thank match sponsors GRD Engineering Ltd for their continued support of The Eastenders.
The Junior Football Academy continues on Saturday (10-11.30am). In case of adverse weather / pitch conditions, please check with Daniel on 07703 517525 beforehand.
