Holderness Advertiser 16th January
THE weather forced postponement of Easington United’s scheduled trip to Barton Town OB Reserves last Saturday and initial signs aren’t very encouraging for the forthcoming weekend.
Easington are set to entertain Malet Lambert at Low Farm, hoping to return to winning ways in the Humber Premier League, but with the pitch holding a fair amount of water and more rain forecast over the early part of this week, doubts already exist as to whether or not the game will go ahead.
If it does survive – and one option being considered is to reverse the fixture – Eastenders manager Dave Mackay-Dundas is set to hand a HPL debut to goalkeeper Craig Pickersgill, in the absence of Kevin Appleyard. Elsewhere, Luke Jeffery should return following his involvement last week with the ERCFA Juniors squad but Dan Potts and Craig Smalley are both sidelined by injury.
The Eastenders Reserves’ County League fixture was also washed out and it’s now four weeks since they last played. However, having seen bottom club Holme Rovers fail to take advantage of this inactivity, Easington will hope to extend their advantage over them when they go to reigning Premier Division champions AFC Charter this Saturday.
With Pickersgill on HPL duty, Steve Eldon looks likely to be summoned from the Casuals who have no game in Division 4. The veteran goalkeeper is in fine form at the moment and helped his side to a third successive win at Eastrington on Saturday. Stu Campbell (3), Andy Milbank, Dave Clubley and a rare Trevor Biglin strike earned the Casuals a 6-3 success.

CLUB NOTES
Last week’s Humber Premier League game at Barton fell victim to the weather and the remnants of this, in addition to a fairly sorry looking forecast for the early part of the week, has already cast serious doubt on this weekend’s scheduled fixture at Low Farm taking place. The senior squad are set to entertain Malet Lambert in the HPL and in view of the conditions moves are already being made to reverse the game if at all possible. Should the match go ahead, Manager Mack is set to welcome Luke Jeffery back after the youngster’s involvement with the ERCFA Juniors last Saturday. There is also likely to be a HPL call-up for goalkeeper Craig Pickersgill as Kevin Appleyard is absent.
The Reserves saw their scheduled fixture washed out last Saturday. They are set to go to AFC Charter in the County League Premier Division this weekend with veteran goalkeeper Steve Eldon in line to replace Pickersgill. Manager Mike Wilson will also hope to have James Robinson and Luke Smith available for selection alongside the initial 13 named last week.
The Casuals have no game this weekend.
The wet weather also forced postponement of the restart of Danny Campbell’s Junior Football Academy last Saturday. Weather permitting, it will resume this week (10-11.30am) but parents/guardians are advised to check with Daniel on 07703 517525 beforehand.
