Holderness Advertiser 19th December
A 90th minute goal from Reckitts substitute Andy Martin denied Easington United a second successive win against a side with genuine hopes of claiming the Humber Premier League title.
Martin’s shot beat goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard and the despairing lunge of defender Kevin Milner on the line to help the five times champions claim a 2-2 draw.
In truth a point was the least Reckitts deserved, having dominated the first half to such an extent that when Daniel Medforth capitalised on an error by goalkeeper Jim Lawrie to bundle the Eastenders into a 45th minute lead, it came from virtually their first real attempt on goal!
By contrast Reckitts peppered the home goal in the first half. Appleyard made one stunning reflex save to deny Steve Lapping, two efforts were hacked off the goal line and the woodwork was also struck as the home goal led something of a charmed life.
However, after the break, Easington came much more into things and looked on course for the points when Mike Nicholson scored a 69th minute goal within a minute of Tom Fleming having hauled Reckitts level at 1-1. Then came Martin’s last-gasp equaliser.
With leaders Smith & Nephew and second-placed Hutton Cranswick also dropping points, both Easington and Reckitts will probably view the result as a missed opportunity. But with almost half the campaign still to go, both managers know there are a lot of twists and turns likely to follow before the title is finally decided.
The Eastenders now enjoy a weekend off before returning to action at home to Withernsea on 29 December, followed by the visit of reigning champions Sculcoates Amateurs a week later.
In the ER County League Premier Division, Darren Thompson’s equaliser earned the Eastenders Reserves a valuable point at Sculcoates Amateurs Reserves. The Reserves are in action again this weekend, away at Howden Amateurs.

CLUB NOTES
Both the First Team and Casuals are without fixtures this weekend so attention centres on the Reserves who go to last season’s runners-up Howden Amateurs in the County League Premier Division.
The First Team return to action on Saturday week (29th) at home to Withernsea, while on the “Pitch Across The Ditch” the Casuals entertain Brandesburton Thirds.
Thanks to G.R.D. Engineering for their match sponsorship last weekend. The winning ‘Golden Goal’ time was 45 minutes.
The Club is delighted to announce that every HPL home game in 2007/08 now has a sponsor. Sponsorship of all home ER County League games is still available, priced £10.00.
Due to the pitches at Destiny Fitness being declared unfit for play last Friday night, the intended debut of the “Awd Ezzies” Veterans section will now have to wait until 2008. Details of any other forthcoming fixtures will be advertised here and on our Club web site.
There is a Coffee Morning in aid of Club funds taking place in the Youth Club this Saturday (10am). All support welcome.
