Holderness Advertiser 5th December
ALTHOUGH they’ve not quite reached the halfway stage of their Humber Premier League campaign, Easington United go into their next two games knowing they can ill-afford to drop many more points if they’re to remain in the hunt for honours.
The Eastenders go to leaders Smith & Nephew this Saturday before entertaining fourth-placed Reckitts a week later. Positive results from both games would rekindle interest in a season that has gone somewhat flat in recent weeks.
At least manager Dave Mackay-Dundas should be able to select from strength again. Steve Harrod, Jon-Paul Johnson, Jamie Cousins, Kevin Milner and Andy Graham could all be available after missing out in recent weeks, while Mike Nicholson came through a Reserves game last Saturday with no ill-effects from his recent injury. Only Craig Smalley remains a major doubt after pulling out of the aforementioned game with a recurrence of ankle trouble.
Easington go to Hull University’s 3G pitch having tasted defeat there already this season in the Grays League Cup. With 16pts separating the two teams – and despite having two games in hand – another defeat is something the Eastenders simply cannot afford. A repeat of their 2-1 win in the two teams’ previous league meeting would do nicely.
The postponement of last week’s HPL game due to ERCFA Representative commitments proved of no benefit to the Eastenders Reserves. Despite an opening goal from Craig Foster, they were beaten 3-1 at Northfield Athletic in the County League Premier Division. There was better news from Low Farm where four goals from Stuart Campbell on his first outfield appearance in two months helped the Casuals come from two down to beat Withernsea 6-2 in Division 4.

CLUB NOTES
There are no home games for the Farm Faithful this Saturday. After the late postponement of last week’s trip to Malet Lambert, the First Team return to HPL action with a tough away assignment at leaders Smith & Nephew. Manager Mack will hope to have Harrod, Johnson, Milner, Cousins, Nicholson and Graham all vying for places after all have missed out in recent weeks. However, goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard picked up a knock on Saturday and is a doubt, as is defender Craig Smalley who was forced out of the Reserves fixture due to a recurrence of recent ankle trouble.
In the County League Premier Division, the Reserves go to Goole to meet third-placed Viking Raiders. At a time when the team is struggling to find a regular goalkeeper, news of the above injury to Appleyard is the last thing Wilson wants to hear. Elsewhere, the Club has seven days’ notice in for two outfield players as the manager looks to bolster his squad ahead of what is going to be a testing second half of the season.
The Casuals go to Holme Rovers 3rds in Division 4 with The Chairman’s main concern at time of going to print being over a toe injury sustained by Stuart Campbell. In addition, James Robinson misses out this week and Nibs Carrick is also still absent.
The Eastenders’ new Veteran section will “enjoy” (if that’s the right term) their first run out on Sunday week (16 December). They meet Hedon Rangers (Keyingham) Veterans at the Destiny Fitness Ground, Saltend. Anybody wishing to put their beer bellies on the line for the “The Awd Ezzies” should contact Richard on 01964 650133.
Danny Campbell’s new “Football Academy” continues its regular Saturday morning sessions at Low Farm (10am-11.30am). Any boy or girl aged 12 and under is welcome to attend.
