Holderness Advertiser 17th October
JIMMY Neilson marked his first start in an Easington shirt for two years with the winner as the Eastenders progressed to the second round of the East Riding Senior Cup at Hornsea Town.
The returning striker beat goalkeeper Rich Dexter to Craig Smalley's hopeful punt before rolling the ball into an empty net five minutes into the second half.
Although there were a few hairy moments throughout, Easington thoroughly deserved the win - their first in the competition since 2003 - and should really have made things easier given their territorial supremacy.
With a tough looking October fixture list in what is traditionally a bad month for the Eastenders, manager Dave Mackay-Dundas will be relieved to have got a win under his belt following the first league defeat of the season at Sculcoates a week earlier.
In addition, after an injury-free first few weeks, ‘Mack’ has been hit by a recent glut of absences affecting his squad. Stuart Campbell is out long-term with an ankle injury and both Kevin Milner and Paul Wilkinson missed the win at Hornsea.
This weekend Easington are again on cup duty when they go to HPL leaders Smith & Nephew in the first round of the Grays League Cup. Despite the fixture being played on the “controversial” 3G pitch at Hull University, the Holderness side will travel in confident mood having beaten their opponents in the league a couple of weeks ago.
Elsewhere in the camp there were defeats for both the Reserves and the Casuals. At Low Farm, sixteen-year-old goalkeeper Paul Ellis made a fine debut but couldn’t prevent the Reserves sliding to a second successive home defeat in the ER County League Premier Division; Craig Foster scoring twice in the 2-3 reverse against Northfield Athletic.
Meanwhile, the Casuals put up a brave fight at Flamborough before exiting the ERCFA Junior Country Cup, the hosts scoring an injury time winner in a 3-2 scoreline. Rich Clubley and Chris Smith netted for Easington.

CLUB NOTES
The Eastenders senior squad are on cup duty again this Saturday. They travel to Hull University’s “controversial” 3G pitch to face current league leaders Smith & Nephew in the Grays League Cup. Ollie Musgrove is away for the weekend, while of those absent last week, Tony Hunt and Paul Wilkinson should both be available for selection. Neil Rutter, Mike Nicholson and JP Johnson are all slight injury doubts.
Manager Mike Wilson is away for the next two Reserve team games, leaving assistants Craig Foster and John Clarke with the job of steering the side to some much-needed points from two further home games in the County League Premier Division. Skidby Millers visit Low Farm this weekend with Howden Amateurs to follow.
In County League Division 4, the Casuals go to Westella & Willerby Juniors with a squad set to show more changes from that which lost at Flamborough. Sam Broom and Ricky Biglin are both absent, while ‘Nibs’ Carrick, Ben Hodgson and Dave Hurren remain sidelined by other commitments.
