EASINGTON United relinquished their six-match hold on top spot in the Humber Premier League Premier Division thanks to Mike Evins’ 88th minute equaliser at Norwood Park on Saturday. The Beverley Town forward rose to head home at a corner and cancel out his “own goal” at the other end, which had given Easington a 26th minute lead.
The point was the least the hosts deserved for a dominant second half performance but Easington manager Dave Mackay-Dundas was left bitterly disappointed by the manner of the equaliser. He said, “The lads had worked so hard to get their noses in front and we’d defended doggedly second half only for one moment’s loss of concentration to let us down.”
The Eastenders controlled the first half and Mike Nicholson, Paul Wilkinson and Steve Harrod all had clear sight of goal before Evins inadvertently got the last touch on a Stu Campbell corner to give them the lead.
In fairness the second half was probably even more one-way traffic in the other direction, Town coming out determined to level matters quickly. However, apart from getting down to one Evins shot after 48mins, Easington goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard didn’t really have a save to make until getting down well to deny Rich Jagger two minutes from time, the clearance prompting the corner from which Evins finally equalised.
The dropped two points allowed Smith & Nephew to leapfrog Easington at the top and sets up this weekend’s meeting of the two teams at Low Farm perfectly.
In the County League Premier Division, a depleted Eastenders Reserves gained a valuable point in a 3-3 draw with Sculcoates Amateurs. Darren Thompson (2) and Craig Foster were the Easington scorers.

CLUB NOTES
The First Team face their biggest game of the season so far on Saturday when Smith & Nephew come to Low Farm. The Hull side romped to the Division 1 title last season and reached the final of the Grays Cup wherein they lost to reigning Premier Division champions Sculcoates. They are the new leaders of the HPL following a 4-1 demolition of Westella & Willerby last Saturday. One thing is for sure, they won’t be short of self-belief!!
Manager Mack must decide how to replace main playmaker Steve Harrod who misses the game due to holidays. Tom McLaughlin is available again after a family bereavement ruled him out of Saturday’s trip to Beverley, while Luke Smith, Ollie Musgrove and John Batch are all challenging for a starting place.
The Reserves are inactive this weekend but the Casuals face a daunting challenge of their own against in-form Holme Rovers Reserves at Humbleton. The visitors lead Division 4 after three matches, boasting a one hundred per cent record in which they’ve scored 13 goals and only conceded 2! The locals will look to build on a promising opening day display against Shiptonthorpe but need to get their points’ balance sheet back to zero having become one of the first teams to fall foul of the new deduction for failing to fulfil a fixture last weekend. Hopefully, Manager Clubley will have more than seven players at his disposal on Saturday!

The winners of the September Eastenders 100 Club Draw were: £25 – No.9, Malcolm McNaught; £15 – No.35, Jean Mills; £10 – No.60, Tony Hunt; £5 – No.124, Jimmy Neilson; £5 – No.29, Jed Foster
