Holderness Advertiser 19th September
EASINGTON United remained top of the Humber Premier League Premier Division after an eight-goal demolition of Hessle Rangers at Low Farm.
Leading 3-0 at half-time, the Eastenders blew their opponents away with three more goals inside four minutes just past the hour mark and two in three from substitute Luke Smith in the 74th and 76th minutes.
Paul Wilkinson set Easington on their way on 8mins. Steve Harrod made it 2-0 five minutes before the break, though not without some controversy, his quickly taken free-kick leaving the visitors incensed with the referee. Mike Nicholson then made it three before the break.
The floodgates really opened when Harrod volleyed home his second – and seventh of the campaign – on 64mins. Wilkinson completed a brace of his own a minute later and it was 5-0 after 67mins, sub Ollie Musgrove scoring with virtually his first touch.
Smith then came off the bench to join in the fun and Rangers’ misery was compounded by a nasty looking injury to skipper Lee Gardiner ten minutes from time.
Easington now face successive games against two of their main early season rivals, beginning with the trip to Beverley Town this weekend. Manager Dave Mackay-Dundas should have central defender John Batch available for selection but Danny Medforth’s ankle injury still looks like keeping him out for another week or so.
The Eastenders Reserves bounced back from an opening day defeat to register their first win in the County League Premier Division, 2-1 at Holme Rovers, but the Casuals went down by the same score in their opening Division 4 game against Shiptonthorpe United.

CLUB NOTES
The First Team embark on back-to-back games against two of their main early season rivals, beginning with an away trip to Beverley Town. John Batch is back from honeymoon with Manager Mack having to decide whether to draft him straight back into the squad or give him a run at reserve team level.
The Reserves entertain their Sculcoates Amateurs counterparts at Low Farm looking to build on the win at Holme Rovers. Chris Senior may come into contention if recovered from the dead leg that kept him out on Saturday but Ian Barrow is unavailable. Luke Jeffery picked up a knock last week but should be okay, while James Robinson’s availability may depend on other commitments.
The Casuals go to Market Weighton Reserves. ‘Dooley’ Cousins is sidelined by a hamstring problem and Kevin Newsam is unavailable but Chairman Clubley should have Chris Smith, Adam Swaby and Ian Carrick available for their first outings of the season.
Thanks to G.R.D. Engineering for Saturday’s match sponsorship. The winning Golden Goal time was 8mins and so far remains unclaimed.
The Eastenders Annual General Meeting takes place on Monday (24 Sep) at The Haven Arms, Hedon (8.00pm). Meanwhile, training has now moved to Endeavour School (6-7pm).
