Holderness Advertiser 29th August
EASINGTON United maintained their solid start to the season despite surrendering a two-goal lead at North Ferriby United Reserves on Saturday.
In an entertaining game at Inglemire Lane, goals from Alex Davison and Liam Johnson earned the hosts a share of the spoils after a Steve Harrod brace had seemingly set Easington on the way to a third straight victory.
The goals were only half the story. Eastenders goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard proved his side’s hero with two excellent penalty saves, at the start and end of the first half, as well as several more in open play.
At the other end, the Eastenders hit the woodwork twice, had a shot cleared off the line and Harrod was denied his hat-trick when goalkeeper Richard Wallis flung himself to his right to turn away an 87th minute free kick.
Both sides went close to snatching all three points in injury time; substitute Luke Smith heading inches wide at one end before Appleyard saved well from Davison at the other.
The point maintained Easington’s position among the early season frontrunners in the HPL Premier Division and followed on their comfortable midweek derby victory at Withernsea.
A 2nd minute strike from Kevin Milner set them on their way at Hull Road with second half goals from Mike Nicholson, Paul Wilkinson and Craig Smalley completing a 4-0 success.
The Eastenders faced another ‘Holderness Derby’ clash last night with the visit of Hedon Rangers and on Saturday they entertain Westella & Willerby at Low Farm (2.00pm).
There is also a game at Low Farm on Thursday when the Reserves meet Roos in the annual Barney Moverley Memorial fixture (6.15pm).

CLUB NOTES
The Eastenders are at home to Westella & Willerby on Saturday (2.00pm). John Batch’s wedding means he now misses the next three matches – best wishes for the big day from all at the Club. On the plus side Ian Barrow, Ollie Musgrove and Tony Hunt are all back off holiday, leaving manager Mack with more “difficult” decisions to make!
Thanks to Brummitt Animal Health for the match sponsorship against Hedon Rangers on Tuesday night. Report and winning Golden Goal time to appear in next week’s Gazette if not in today.
The Reserves are in action tonight. They entertain Roos at Low Farm in the annual Barney Moverley Memorial fixture (6.30pm) before opening their County League Premier Division campaign against AFC Charter on Saturday week (8th).
Fun Junior Coaching sessions continue at Low Farm this Saturday (10am).
The August Draw for the Eastenders 100 Club was set to take place at last night’s monthly committee meeting; results to be posted in next week’s Gazette.
