Holderness Advertiser 22nd August
EASINGTON United went into last night’s ‘Holderness Derby’ at Withernsea on the back of a fine end to their pre-season schedule and a winning start in the Humber Premier League Premier Division.
On Saturday, the Eastenders came from a goal down to beat Barton Town Old Boys Reserves 4-2 at Low Farm.
Trailing at the break to Cadey Elliott's 11th minute strike, the Eastenders turned the game on its head with two goals inside as many minutes at the start of the second half.
The first of these was an Andy Graham penalty with Jamie Cousins making it 2-1 a minute later. The Eastenders’ third, scored by Mike Nicholson, came on 63 minutes with the visitors’ subsequent protests resulting in the first of three red cards.
Despite this, Barton reduced arrears through Elliott's second goal on 78mins before Graham headed home a Kevin Milner free-kick to seal victory six minutes from time. Ensuing Barton protests saw Daryl Devaney and then Richard Lake join Jamie Harper in seeing red, all three players having been dismissed for comments made to the referee’s assistant.
The win came five days after Easington had become the first team to lift the Holderness Cup Winners Cup. Tied 1-1 with Hornsea Town after extra-time at North Frodingham, the Eastenders emerged 4-2 victors in the ensuing penalty shoot-out.
Easington’s next two league games are at North Ferriby Utd Reserves on Saturday and at home to Hedon Rangers next Tuesday (August 28).
