Holderness Advertiser 15th August
EASINGTON United entertain Barton Town Old Boys Reserves on Saturday in the opening round of fixtures in this season’s Humber Premier League Premier Division (kick-off 2.00pm). It’s part of a hectic start to the campaign that sees four fixtures in the first two weeks.
Barring any major injuries sustained in Monday’s inaugural Holderness Cup Winners Cup Final against Hornsea, manager Dave Mackay-Dundas selects from a near full-strength 26-man squad. The only definite absentees are Ian Barrow and Ollie Musgrove (both holiday) and Jimmy Neilson (injured), while skipper Neil Rutter and defender Tony Hunt are slight injury doubts.
Barton will again be an unknown proposition, having seen their first team gain promotion to the Northern Counties East League at the end of last season. Last year’s corresponding fixture saw the Eastenders win 4-0 in November but the return in March was a much tighter affair with the teams playing out a 1-1 draw.
The Eastenders’ last non-competitive game of pre-season resulted in a 4-2 win at Hessle Sporting Club last Thursday. Steve Harrod, Luke Smith, Paul Wilkinson and Andy Graham were on target against the HPL newcomers as Easington registered their first win in four games thus far.
Two days earlier an inexperienced line-up had gone down by the same scoreline to HPL Division 1 side Brandesburton. Anthony Barnett and Dan Harris were the Easington scorers.
Following Saturday’s opener, the Eastenders make the short trip to Withernsea next Tuesday (6.30pm).
