Holderness Advertiser 8th August
EASINGTON United complete their pre-season schedule with two games in five days, starting at Humber Premier League new boys Hessle Sporting Club tomorrow night (kick-off 6.30pm).
The Eastenders then meet Hornsea Town at North Frodingham on Monday evening in the inaugural ‘Holderness Cup Winners Cup’, a trophy to be competed for annually between the winners of the South Holderness Cup and its north Holderness equivalent, the Tanton Cup.
Tomorrow night’s game at Hessle may see Easington manager Dave Mackay-Dundas mixing up his likely first and reserve team squads, as was the case against Brandesburton at Low Farm last night. That fixture was the third of the summer with Easington still looking for their first goal following a 0-2 defeat by Hull City Juniors on Friday. Two Ryan Kendall goals inside four minutes towards the end of the game decided matters but despite this, Mackay-Dundas was pleased with his side’s performance. Several plus-points came out of the evening in terms of selection, while off-the-field, the visit of Radio Humberside’s live Sports Talk programme and a large crowd down at Low Farm helped attract some welcome publicity for the club.
Following tomorrow evening’s fixture, Mackay-Dundas looks set to field his probable first-choice starting eleven against Hornsea, which comes just five days before the opening HPL Premier Division fixture at home to Barton Town Old Boys Reserves.

CLUB NOTES
The Eastenders were set to play two more warm-up games this week. On Tuesday a predominantly “Reserve” side was in line to face HPL Division 1 side Brandesburton (6.30pm) with a slightly stronger line-up expected to figure tonight away at Hessle Sporting Club (6.30pm). Manager Mack looks set to then name his near first-choice side to face Hornsea Town next Monday in the inaugural Holderness Cup Winners Cup game at North Frodingham (6.30pm).
Due to work commitments within the management, the Reserves will be under the stewardship of ‘Dooley’ Cousins for their pre-season schedule. He was set to take control for the first time before Tuesday’s game against Brandesburton, with a temporary assistant-manager likely to be named ahead of the remaining matches.
The Annual Melvin Douglas Memorial fixture against Hedon United, scheduled for next Tuesday (14th) has had to be postponed following problems with the Drapers Lane pitch. Details of any proposed new date will be posted in due course.
Last Friday’s fixture was preceded in the afternoon by the “Festival” climax of the recent FA School-Club Link Programme, organised in conjunction with the East Riding County FA and Easington CE (VC) School. Twenty youngsters took part in a mini-World Cup and penalty competition under the tutelage of Junior Coach Daniel Campbell and Suzanne Smith from the ERCFA. At the end, Hull City’s Stephen Gardiner presented certificates to all those who participated. Danny would like to thank Judy & Jeff Sugden for their help with the event, as well as all the parents/guardians and the youngsters for their efforts over the past six weeks. Regular coaching sessions will continue on Saturday mornings at 10am with an extra midweek session now also in the pipeline; check with Danny for further details.
Finally, thanks to Burnsy & co at BBC Radio Humberside for ensuring the broadcast of “Sports Talk” went out live from The Farm on Friday night.
