EASINGTON United entertain Hull City Juniors on Friday evening in what has become something of a traditional highlight of their pre-season schedule. The Young Tigers are making their fourth such visit to Low Farm with each of the previous three proving very enjoyable.
The game gives Easington manager Dave Mackay-Dundas his first real chance to look at the nucleus of his anticipated Humber Premier League squad.
Seven of the ten players who missed Saturday’s opener against Desford are expected to figure against The Tigers, with only assistant-boss Dave Walmsley, Ollie Musgrove and the recovering Jimmy Neilson still absent. In addition Paul Wilkinson, who made his latest return in the aforementioned game, is also away for the City match.
Among those back and expected to be included are skipper Neil Rutter, defenders John Batch, Craig Smalley, Kevin Milner and Luke Jeffery, midfielder Mike Nicholson and striker Steve Harrod.
Saturday’s opener at Hull University saw a youthful-looking Eastenders line-up go down 3-0 to their Leicester League opponents. Despite this, Mackay-Dundas was quite positive about aspects of his side’s display and acknowledged that playing on the 3G artificial pitch had proved a useful exercise.
Friday’s fixture, which kicks off at 7.00pm, is preceded in the afternoon by the “Festival” climax of the recent FA School-Club Link Programme organised in conjunction with the East Riding County FA and Easington CE (VC) School. About thirty youngsters are expected to take part with Junior Coach Daniel Campbell overseeing the presentation of certificates to those who’ve participated during the past six weeks.

CLUB NOTES
Tomorrow sees the Eastenders entertain Hull City Juniors at Low Farm (7.00pm). Manager Mack could have at least seven players available who missed the Desford game, although Ollie Musgrove (holiday), Dave Walmsley (work) and Neil Rutter (injured) all miss out again. In addition, Paul Wilkinson is also expected to be absent. Most of the current squad will gain a run out next week with two fixtures against HPL Division 1 sides in store. On Tuesday, Brandesburton come to Low Farm and on Thursday the locals face Hessle Sporting Club away. Both games kick-off at 6.30pm.
On a slightly less competitive note, the “Eastend Masters” (ahem!) team did themselves proud in Saturday’s “Easington, Kilnsea & Spurn Charity 5-A-Side Football Competition” at the Youth Club, eventually losing out in the final to a useful team from Sandy Beaches Caravan Park, Kilnsea. The veterans’ squad of ‘Freddie’ Eldon, ‘Dooley’ Cousins, Dave Hurren, John Clarke, Chris Smith, Rich Lusmore and ‘guest’ Dave Fuller won three out of four group games before excelling themselves in the semi-final win over the hotly-tipped “Original Eastenders”, only to fall well short in the final. A rare fine summer’s afternoon and a well-attended quiz in the evening will hopefully have seen several pounds raised for the RNLI, East End Cancer Relief, Spurn Bird Observatory and the Football Club.
The opening day’s fixtures in the Humber Premier League Premier Division have pitted Easington at home to Barton Town Old Boys Reserves on Saturday 18 August (kick-off 2.00pm).
Finally, thanks to Technostics Limited for their continued support in 2007/08. We look forward to welcoming Peter, Harvey & Ben down to Low Farm tomorrow evening as our guests. Any other businesses and/or individuals interested in supporting The Eastenders during 2007/08 are invited to ring 01964 650133 for details of sponsorship packages available.
