Casuals end season on a low high note!
ER County League Division 4
Withernsea Thirds 0 – 2 Easington Utd Casuals
AFTER seven successive defeats Casuals boss Clubley would have taken any kind of victory with which to end the season – which is just as well given that this wasn’t a vintage performance by any stretch of the imagination.
Things started well enough - within the first minute a quick attack down the left culminated in a fine shot from Kevin Newsam and the Casuals were one up!
To their credit, Withernsea responded well to the early setback and proceeded to look the livelier of the two sides throughout the game without really threatening Steve Eldon’s goal.
On the other hand the Casuals, according to one observer, “looked very lethargic all through the game. Maybe we scored too early!!!”
There were few chances for either side to shout about with neither team able to make anything work in the final third; and this despite the introduction by Clubley of Barnett and Findley for the last quarter of an hour, which appeared to give the visitors greater impetus if not the cutting edge.
That is until the last minute when Iain McNaught for once opted not to launch a free kick from halfway, instead putting in a deft chip that Ricky Biglin helped on across the box with Chris Smith on hand at the far post to apply the necessary finish – although afterwards both players appeared to agree the goal was actually Biglin’s (is that right Rick?).
In the conclusion of the aforementioned observer: “That’s about it really – first minute, last minute and nothing really in between; good to win though!”
Casuals: S Eldon, S Cousins, T Biglin, A McNaught, I McNaught, J Clarke, W Ineson (M Findley), R Biglin, C Smith, A Milbank, K Newsam (A Barnett)
