Casuals left fog-bound in Newbald
ER County League Division 4
North Newbald 3 – 0 Easington Utd Casuals
Easington Casuals boss Iain McNaught jetted off to sunnier climes earlier this week leaving behind a side desperately in need of some winter warmth of their own following another deeply disappointing display at the weekend.
With a wet “Pitch Across The Ditch” prompting a switch to their opponents’ South Newbald Road ground, the Casuals started well enough and knocked the ball around confidently. However, they failed to capitalise on some early chances, Dave Clubley going closest following up a tremendous Pete Waddingham shot.
Unfortunately, in line with the gloomy conditions, the visitors’ performance deteriorated leaving Maccer to bemoan: “There were too many poor passes, a distinct lack of confidence throughout the whole side and just not enough effort all round. Frustrating.”
Two goals in quick-fire succession turned the game the hosts’ way and a third in the second half completed a comprehensive 3-0 scoreline. The late dismissal of “Biff” McNaught compounded the Casuals’ misery.
Ironically, up to that point, McNaught was one of the players praised by the manager for his performance, along with the “lively” Waddingham and the hard-working Brown.
Of most disappointment to the boss was the fact that his side probably created more chances than their hosts but “never looked like having the killer touch” whereas Newbald clinically finished the few opportunities they made.
Casuals: Eldon, D Rutter, T Biglin, Dawson, I McNaught, A McNaught, D Clubley (Findley, 70), Turley, R Clubley (Milbank, 65), Waddingham, Brown
