Eastenders v Chalk Lane
Humber Premier League
Sat 22nd Nov - Low Farm - Kick-Off: 2.00pm
The “Three Wise Men” (aka Craig Smalley, John Clarke and Neil Rutter) couldn’t have wished for a tougher task with which to take control of First Team matters. Leaders Chalk Lane come to Low Farm having displaced Beverley Town at the top thanks to last week’s 1-0 win at Norwood.
Smalley, stepping up from Reserve team matters to take the helm tomorrow, has called up teenager Mark Hutchinson in place of the absent Anthony Barnett. Dave Walmsley’s resignation, meanwhile, further reduces the number of opportunities currently open to the First Team management.
On the plus side, goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard and striker James Mee came through action with the Reserves last weekend with no ill-effects and leading scorer Gavin Thurkettle has overcome a slight hamstring problem. Craig Havercroft, forced off during the Cleethorpes game with a bang on the ankle, is also fully recovered.
Last season the Eastenders won the corresponding encounter 2-1 (as part of a notable “double” over their visitors) a result that took them – briefly – to the top of the table. While no such prize awaits them tomorrow, victory would help maintain the confidence restored with the win over Cleethorpes in the locals’ last outing almost a month ago!
Having finished runners-up in the league last year, in addition to winning the league cup, Mick Mellors’ side look a good bet to go one better this time round. Already they’ve dispatched reigning champions Sculcoates Amateurs with some aplomb as one of their 10 wins in 13 outings in the HPL. Still, defeat at Hedon Rangers (1-4) and a recent single goal reverse at Cleethorpes would suggest that there are chinks to be found in the visitors’ impressive looking armour.
Tomorrow’s game is being kindly sponsored by G. R. D. Engineering Ltd.

Wawne Ferry v Reserves
ER County League Premier Division
Sat 22nd Nov - Noddle Hill Way - Kick-Off: 2.00pm
With Craig Smalley taking the first team reins tomorrow, assistant-manager Darren Dawson is in charge of the Reserves for their tough-looking trip to Wawne Ferry.
Shorn of Appleyard, Barnett, Hutchinson, Jamieson and Metcalf from last week’s squad that battled so gamely against leaders Beverley, Dawson also has doubts over striker Steve Tennyson.
Little wonder then that the boss is hoping have Jonny Hairsine available for selection as well as finally welcoming Luke Smith and Ian Barrow back to the fold in time for tomorrow’s fixture. Both players have been unavailable thus far this season and their return tomorrow would provide the Stiffs with a big boost. One player who definitely returns to the squad is young left back Jamie Hollingsworth, having missed out on last week’s game.
There is a likely start up front for Ben Holtby, while in goal Pete Waddingham “completes the set” having deputised already for the Casuals (at South Cave) and the senior squad (v Cleethorpes). He will now look to build on the clean sheet kept that day when donning the gloves tomorrow.
Hosts Wawne have made a cracking start to life in the Premier Division, having won four and lost just one of their opening five matches.
There is a pitch inspection at 10am tomorrow although the hosts are confident the game will go ahead.
Reserves (from): Waddingham, Findley, Hollingsworth, Page, Foster, Fisk, Rice, McLaughlin, Tennyson, Holtby, Smith, Barrow, Dawson, Hairsine

Casuals v Roos
ER County League Division 4
Sat 22nd Nov - Low Farm - Kick-Off: 2.00pm
The effects of the forecast wintry weather on the “Pitch Across The Ditch” will determine whether or not the Casuals game against local rivals Roos takes place at Low Farm or on their opponents’ ground.
Tomorrow’s fixture is the Casuals’ fourth in a row at home and the pitch has taken a battering in the past two weeks.
The same could almost be said of Iain McNaught’s players who were thumped 6-1 by leaders Waterloo a fortnight ago before being slated by the boss himself despite rescuing a point against Eastrington last Saturday.
“Maccer” is looking for a “one hundred per cent improvement” against the free-scoring visitors but will be without Pete Waddingham, one of few players to emerge with credit last Saturday. Kev Newsam is also a doubt following the injury that limited him to ten minutes action last week. Andy Milbank and Nibs Carrick, meanwhile, are still unavailable.
Roos have made a storming start to the season, scoring 43 goals in their opening seven matches, during which they’ve tasted defeat just once. They are level on points at the top with Waterloo, a position they consolidated with a 7-3 mauling of Howden Town a fortnight ago.
Casuals (from): Eldon, D Rutter, T Biglin, Feeney, I McNaught, D Campbell, Ward, A McNaught, D Clubley, R Clubley, Brown, Turley, Newsam, AN Other
