Holderness Advertiser 23rd July
EASINGTON United welcome the world’s oldest football club to Low Farm for their second pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Sheffield FC, formed in 1857, are sending their Reserve team over to Holderness with the hosts hoping to improve on an error-strewn first outing last weekend.
Despite twice taking the lead, through Danny Medforth and James Mee, the Eastenders lost 3-4 to Pontefract side Yorkshire Penny whose winner came seven minutes from time, just two minutes after Stuart Campbell’s goal appeared to have rescued a draw for the hosts.
Manager Dave Mackay-Dundas was without seven frontline players for last week’s game and loses another two this week, while Ollie Musgrove (work) and Luke Jeffery (injury) are doubtful. In addition the boss himself and assistant Tony Hunt are both on holiday.
Therefore Dave Walmsley takes charge and he should at least be able to count upon the return of Kevin Appleyard, Kevin Milner, Chris Frost and Anthony Barnett who all missed the Penny defeat.
The visitors have just celebrated their 150th anniversary with fixtures against Inter Milan and Ajax as well as a special dinner at which FIFA President Sepp Blatter was among the guests. They also narrowly missed out on capping their season with promotion following defeat in the UniBond League play-offs.
Following Saturday's game Easington entertain the County FA Juniors on Thursday, 7 August before playing Brandesburton away on Monday, 11 August.

The “World’s First Club” provides the latest attraction
FORMED on 24 October 1857, Sheffield FC is officially recognised as “the world’s first football club”. It is therefore an honour to have them visit Low Farm for the first time ever as the Eastenders’ pre-season preparations continue this weekend.
The UniBond League side’s reserve team provide the opposition with Easington manager Dave Mack looking for wholesale improvements after defeat last weekend.
He said, “To say we looked rusty is an understatement! There were errors right across the park and a lot of things to work on. Having said that, we had a fair few players lining up with each other for the first time and there were moments when we played some really good football. There were also two or three impressive individual performances so it’s now a case of stepping things up from week to week.”
The manager will actually miss Saturday’s game due to holiday, as does assistant-boss Tony Hunt. Therefore Dave Walmsley takes charge, assisted by Stewart Cousins. The duo should be bolstered by the return of Kevin Appleyard, Kevin Milner, Chris Frost and Anthony Barnett. On the down side, Jimmy Neilson remains sidelined and Craig Lenham is still absent, while from last week’s line-up Dan Potts and Darren Thompson are both away and Danny Collier’s cameo appearance has convinced him that plenty of work is required before he is anywhere near match fit.
Walmsley will also await news of Luke Jeffery’s progress after he took a whack on the ankle in last week’s defeat and Ollie Musgrove is doubtful due to work.
Saturday’s game again kicks-off at 3.00pm and is accompanied by the first match programme of the season. The Committee would also like to thank The Crown & Anchor, Kilnsea for their generous pre-season sponsorship.
