Holderness Advertiser 18th June
EASINGTON United rounded off their season last Saturday with their Annual Presentation Evening.
Dan Potts proved the main winner at first team level, taking the awards for Players’ Player and Manager’s Player. Steve Harrod picked up the ‘Man of the Match’ trophy while goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard was voted Supporters’ Player. The remaining awards went to Luke Jeffery (Young Player) and James Mee (Most Promising Youngster).
At County League level Adam Metcalf emulated Potts’ two-trophy haul for the Reserves with veteran keeper Steve Eldon doing the same for the Casuals; Other winners on the night were Darren Thompson, Anthony Barnett, Ricky Biglin and Kevin Newsam, with special awards for services to the club going to Dan Potts, Daniel Campbell and Trevor Biglin. Brian Appleyard was named “Supporter of the Year” and tokens of appreciation also went to the Neptune Inn, Granby Inn and vice chairman Mike Wilson.
The Eastenders will resume pre-season training early next month. They have also announced an attractive looking friendly against Sheffield FC (“the world’s first football club”), who visit Low Farm Recreation & Sports Ground on Saturday 26 July. The UniBond League side last season celebrated their 150th anniversary, as part of which they played host to Italian champions Inter Milan and Ajax Amsterdam, as well as entertaining a host of dignitaries including the legendary Pele and FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
The Eastenders also entertain Selby League side Yorkshire Penny (19 July) and the East Riding County FA Junior Representative (7 August) and are in the process of tying up another couple of friendlies in the next week or so.

Potts & Harrod sign off in style
TWO players unlikely to figure at Low Farm next season walked off with awards at Easington United’s Annual Presentation Evening last Saturday.
Dan Potts picked up two First Team trophies (Manager’s Player and Players Player) while Steve Harrod received the award for First Team Man of Match (Player of the Year).
With Potts set to embark on a “round the world” jaunt later this year and Harrod having established himself at Northern Counties East League level with Bottesford Town towards the end of last season, it would appear almost certain that neither player will be wearing the green & gold quarters in 2008/09. As such, both players have ended their association with the Club on a personal high (although Potts, a Level 3 Coach, is still hoping to play a part in the Club’s pre-season preparations)
Other first team awards went to goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard (Supporters’ Player), Luke Jeffery (Young Player) and James Mee (Most Promising Young Player).
At Reserve team level, Adam Metcalf emulated Potts’ two-trophy feat, picking up the Manager’s Player and Man of Match (Player of the Year) awards. The other awards went to Anthony “Bezza” Barnett (Players Player) and Darren Thompson (Supporters’ Player).
There was also a “double winner” at Casuals level where veteran goalkeeper Steve Eldon picked up both the Manager’s Player and the Supporters Player. Eldon was pipped by Ricky Biglin to the Players’ Player trophy with Kevin Newsam being named Casuals Clubman of the Year.
Further awards went to Dan Potts and Daniel Campbell (Services to the Club), Trevor Biglin (450 Appearances), Brian Appleyard (Committee Award for "Supporter of the Year") and an Appreciation Award to Mike Wilson. In addition floral bouquets were handed to Christine at The Neptune Inn and Lorna at The Granby Inn in appreciation of their post-match efforts during the season.
Finally, thanks were expressed to the Club's major sponsors, the various match day helpers Ted Roberts, Tom Robinson, Brian Appleyard, Burt Graham, Trevor & Steve Biglin, Biff McNaught; Jeff Sugden for his handyman skills, Dora Law for the laundry duties, Craig Foster (goalmouth repairs, bike ride organiser & physio); all the “Hug the Coast” bike ride volunteers & helpers, Anita Pratt for the excellent buffet, as well as the usual “anybody else I’ve forgotten” and those people who probably don’t get the appreciation they deserve – the wives, girlfriends and partners of all involved with the club for whom Saturdays can prove quite a long day!
The Eastenders now enjoy a short break before resuming pre-season training early next month. As part of their preparations for the new campaign, they have announced an attractive looking friendly against Sheffield FC (“the world’s first football club”), who visit Low Farm Recreation & Sports Ground on Saturday 26 July. The UniBond League side last season celebrated their 150th anniversary, as part of which they played host to Italian champions Inter Milan and Ajax Amsterdam, as well as entertaining a host of dignitaries including the legendary Pele and FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
The Eastenders also entertain Selby League side Yorkshire Penny (19 July) and the East Riding County FA Junior Representative XI (7 August) and are set to travel to Long Riston on a date still to be confirmed. Another couple of friendlies are also in the pipeline.
Finally, apologies to those youngsters who turned up last Saturday morning – the Academy session had had to be cancelled at short notice. It is hoped to re-commence this Saturday (10am) but please check beforehand by ringing 01964 650133.
