South Holderness Cup Semi-Final
Eastenders v Hedon Rangers
Mon 19th May - Low Farm - Kick-Off: 6.30pm
A place in the South Holderness Cup Final awaits Mack’s side if they can overcome Kenny Harrison’s much-improved Hedon Rangers at Low Farm tonight.
As with the second round tie at Withernsea, the Eastenders boss is playing his cards close to his chest in terms of team selection, although it would appear unlikely that JP Johnson, Mike Nicholson or new signing Craig Lenham will figure, while the boss himself is still not a hundred per cent recovered from the knee injury that has sidelined him since the start of May.
On the plus side, Stuart Campbell is a likely candidate for inclusion given the completion of his 35-day suspension picked up towards the end of the HPL campaign, while assistant-boss Tony Hunt is also named in the squad having recovered from recent injury.
Hedon have enjoyed their best season to date in the HPL, finishing ninth in the table – two places and 3pts above their hosts. Manager Harrison will also have fond memories of his team’s last visit to Low Farm for a Holderness cup-tie; that came in 2005 when his Keyingham side became the first team to beat Easington in the competition since 1998. The visitors secured a 6-5 win on penalties after the teams had drawn 1-1 after extra-time.
However, United can also point to recent history being on their side given victory over Rangers at Destiny Fitness in both the 2006 semi-final and last season’s final, when Steve Harrod’s extra-time goal clinched a 1-0 win. The Eastenders have also completed a league double over their opponents this season, both games ending 2-1 to Mack’s lads.
In spite of the short notice given for this game, it is hoped that a big crowd will be present on what is set to be a fine night at Low Farm. Match sponsorship is being kindly provided by Brummitt Animal Health; our thanks go to Arthur & Paul for their continued support.
Squad (from): K Appleyard, D Medforth, P Morrow, D Potts, N Rutter, A Graham, C Frost, J Cousins, J Mee, S Harrod, A Barnett, K Milner, A Metcalf, D Thompson, T Hunt, S Campbell
