Melvin Douglas Memorial
Hedon United v Reserves
Tue 22 April - Drapers Lane - Kick-off: 6.30pm
Darren Thompson and Luke Smith are both set to return from injury for the Reserves tomorrow night in the annual Melvin Douglas Memorial match against Hedon United at Drapers Lane.
Both players are named in a 14-man squad with Thompson set to partner James Mee up front and Smith looking likely to gain his chance off the bench.
Neither striker has figured since the HE Dean Cup defeat by Withernsea at the start of the month, Thompson having been plagued by a hamstring problem while Smith has struggled to overcome a troublesome ankle injury.
Elsewhere, Darren Dawson remains sidelined by injury, Craig Foster is absent due to work commitments and Brett Fisk is on holiday. Therefore Danny Campbell partners Mike Hooley in the middle of the back four, with Pasha Brown dropping in to right back and Adam Metcalf reverting to left back after a solid display on the right side of midfield for the senior squad at the weekend. Anthony Barnett also gains another start after making his full HPL debut against Beverley, while James Robinson and Jamie Cousins both start after coming off the bench in Saturday’s defeat.
The absence of keepers at the Club has prompted Kevin Appleyard’s inclusion in the squad while Andy Milbank and Dave Clubley earn promotion from the Casuals ranks.
Although having struggled for much of the campaign, Hedon United are looking forward with renewed hope for 2008/09. The promise of new recruits for next season and some off-the-field developments have given manager Dave Gatti a renewed spring in his step after uncertain times in the past couple of years. He will also be keen for his side to wrestle back the trophy lost at Low Farm last season.
Squad: K Appleyard, P Brown, A Metcalf, J Robinson, M Hooley, D Campbell, M Findley, J Cousins, D Thompson, J Mee, A Barnett, L Smith, A Milbank, D Clubley
