Holderness Advertiser 16th April
WITH just four league games remaining Easington United manager Dave Mackay-Dundas is hoping a weekend off will have helped several of his players to recover ahead of Saturday’s difficult looking game at home to Beverley Town.
Although Jimmy Neilson and Craig Smalley have joined the ever-expanding “out for the season” list, the boss is hoping that Jon-Paul Johnson, Luke Jeffery and Luke Smith are all back in the frame for selection. Also due to return are Andy Graham, following suspension, and Jamie Cousins whose participation in a schools’ cup final prevented him figuring in last Wednesday’s defeat at Reckitts.
Cousins was one of sixteen HPL squad members – a figure that includes ten regulars – absent from the defeat which, in truth, wasn’t quite as one-sided as the 4-0 scoreline suggests.
Trailing to Gareth Bairstow’s 20th minute strike, the Eastenders actually shaded much of the second half but having failed to make the most of a couple of presentable opportunities, they paid the price for mistakes at the other end as Reckitts scored three times inside the final 14 minutes.
Barry Waller came off the bench to score twice with fellow sub Adam Crane also netting to complete Reckitts’ first win in this fixture since April 2003.
In addition to their remaining league fixtures, the Eastenders are set to begin their defence of the South Holderness Cup. They’ll meet either Hedon Rangers Juniors or Withernsea in round two after receiving a bye in the original draw. Elsewhere Easington’s ‘B’ squad entertain Paull Wanderers in their first round tie this Saturday.
Finally, next Tuesday (22nd April) sees the annual Melvin Douglas Memorial fixture take place at Drapers Lane between Hedon United and Easington United Reserves.
