Holderness Advertiser 9th April
EASINGTON United go to Reckitts tonight looking to end a run of five games without a win but with a crippling injury list.
Although angered by individual aspects of the latest defeat at LSS Lucarlys on Saturday, manager Dave Mackay-Dundas also took encouragement from the overall display of one of the youngest line-ups he has thus far fielded in the HPL.
With five players under eighteen, the boss was particularly pleased with the performances of debutants James Mee and James Robinson, as well as fellow youngster Paul Morrow who made his first start at this level since rejoining Easington in the New Year.
And for 85 minutes at Humberston they more than held their own against disciplined opponents on a difficult playing surface.
After an even first half, Easington fell behind to Henry Lawless’s strike on 52 minutes before levelling matters within a minute; Danny Medforth converting from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Blanchard had felled JP Johnson.
Easington then looked likely winners before further poor defending allowed Phil Jones to restore the hosts’ advantage just five minutes from time. Cooke wrapped things up in injury time when he seized on goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard’s error to make it 3-1.
To compound the defeat, Jimmy Neilson and Craig Smalley are both now sidelined again following further injuries. With Jamie Cousins also missing tonight along with Saturday’s seven other absentees, the current Easington side is almost unrecognisable from that which sat atop the league for the first two months of the season.
After tonight’s game the Eastenders return to HPL action at home to Beverley Town on 19 April.
