Holderness Advertiser 5th March
EASINGTON United cross the Humber Bridge on Saturday hoping to bounce back to winning ways after one of their more disappointing defeats of the season at Malet Lambert.
An instantly forgettable game played in awful, blustery conditions was settled by a fittingly scruffy goal fifteen minutes from time, the ball going in off Malet striker Simon Spencer’s shoulder after he’d risen above his markers at the far post.
The Eastenders paid for not making the most of the strong back-wind first half and could actually have come off at the interval a goal down had Kevin Appleyard not saved a 42nd minute penalty.
In the second half Easington played reasonably well into the teeth of the wind and Steve Harrod should perhaps have done better with a good chance that came his way five minutes in. At the other end the defence appeared to be coping comfortably with what the hosts had to offer until the late winner.
Young defender Luke Jeffery was forced off with a hamstring problem just half an hour into Saturday’s game and is doubtful for this week’s trip to Barton. However, manager Dave Mackay-Dundas hopes to have Dan Potts and Mike Nicholson back after both missed out at Malet.
In the County League the Reserves boosted their Premier Division survival hopes with a fine 4-3 home win against Viking Raiders. Darren Dawson, Matty Findley, Adam Metcalf and Luke Smith were the Easington scorers.
In Division 4 an Ian Carrick goal gave the Casuals the lead against Eastrington Village but the locals eventually went down by three goals to one.

CLUB NOTES
The Eastenders go to Barton Town Old Boys’ impressive ‘Euronics Ground’, Marsh Lane this Saturday hoping to swiftly put last week’s disappointment behind them. The Swans’ reserve-string were beaten 5-2 at Low Farm on the opening day of the season but are said to be a much-changed side from that particular day. Easington boss Dave Mack hopes to have Dan Potts and Mike Nicholson back in the reckoning but Luke Jeffery is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
There is no game for the Reserves so the action at Low Farm centres on the “Pitch Across The Ditch” where the Casuals will hope to arrest their disappointing recent run against Market Weighton United Reserves. Chairman Clubley should have Ricky and Trevor Biglin, Aiden O’Hara and asst-boss Iain McNaught all back after missing out last weekend.
Thanks to Bonus Electrical for their match sponsorship of last Saturday’s Reserve team game.
Sponsorship forms are now doing the rounds for the “Hugging The Coast Bike Ride”, which takes place from the former McCain Stadium (Athletic Ground) in Scarborough to Low Farm, Easington on Easter Monday, 24th March. Further details will be available via Press Release or can be obtained by ringing Craig Foster on 01964 630933.
The winners of the February Eastenders 100 Club draw are: £25 - No.23 Dave Hodgson; £15 - No.50 Chris Rawlings; £10 - No.43 Doug Clubley; £5 - No.30 Arthur Brummitt; £5 - No.59 Steve Harrod
