Holderness Advertiser 13th February
EASINGTON United manager Dave Mackay-Dundas faces a big task in lifting his players for Saturday's Humber Premier League game at Hessle Rangers. This follows a bitterly disappointing ER Senior Cup quarter-final defeat by Beverley Town at Low Farm.
The Eastenders paid the price for mistakes at both ends of the pitch and went down by two goals to one. They gifted their opponents the lead after just 2mins when goalkeeper Kevin Appleyard’s attempted clearance of a back-pass rebounded off Town striker Craig Lamplough and into the net.
Easington fought back well to equalise on 25mins, skipper Neil Rutter diving to head home Steve Harrod’s excellent cross but just before half-time they were behind again. The defence failed to deal with a controversially awarded free kick and Lamplough was on hand to score his and Beverley’s second.
Although they struggled to break down their opponents after the interval, the Eastenders were given two gilt-edged opportunities to force extra-time when they were awarded penalty kicks in the 72nd and 89th minutes. But both were missed. Teenager Jamie Cousins took the responsibility normally shouldered by the absent Andy Graham on the first, awarded for a foul on Harrod, only to drill his shot wide; then Jon-Paul Johnson’s last minute kick, awarded for handball, was saved by Town keeper Adam Nicholson with Stuart Campbell’s header from the resulting corner being cleared off the line.
Mackay-Dundas will hope to have the aforementioned Graham available for the trip to a rejuvenated Hessle Rangers but Craig Smalley is still doubtful following injury and John Batch remains sidelined.
To complete the disappointment last Saturday, Easington Utd Casuals went down 1-0 at Molescroft Rangers Reserves in ER County League Division 4.

CLUB NOTES
ALL three Easington teams are scheduled to be in action on Saturday. In the HPL Premier Division the senior squad are away at a rejuvenated Hessle Rangers. Mack will assess the fall-out from Saturday’s post-match “frank exchange of views” before announcing his squad. He will hope that Andy Graham is one extra name to be available while the Club were hoping to complete another signing before the weekend. Craig Smalley is also hopeful of a return to action but John Batch remains sidelined.
The Eastenders Reserves entertain their Beverley Town counterparts at Low Farm in the County League Premier Division, with Chris Frost in line for a second debut following his move from Withernsea. Meanwhile in Division 4 the Casuals go to Shiptonthorpe.
THANKS to Kamto Cheng for his kind sponsorship of Saturday’s game at Low Farm. The winning ‘Golden Goal’ time was 2 minutes with the £5 prize being claimed by Judy Sugden.
THE Club would also like to thank everybody who attended and/or supported the latest Coffee Morning, held last week. A total of £95.50 was raised for Club funds.
THE Eastenders Junior Football Academy should finally resume this Saturday (weather permitting!). For any queries, please ring Danny on 07703 517525.
JUST a week after announcing details of the Sponsored Bike Ride being organised for next month, it appears there could be some changes to both the date and the route. Now officially entitled the “Hugging The Coast Bike Ride”, please check with Craig on 01964 630933 for further details.
CONGRATULATIONS from all at Low Farm to Andy G and Helen on the safe – if poorly timed (!!) – arrival of Thomas Christopher last weekend. Can he take penalties?
FINALLY, best wishes from the Club also go to Kevin Milner who made his full debut for Scarborough Athletic against Rainworth in the Northern Counties East League last Saturday.
