Casuals clobbered
Skidby Millers Reserves 8 – 0 Easington Utd Casuals
IN a campaign that has seen more than its fair share of hidings, it was perhaps predictable that the Casuals would go out on the wrong end of one. The only consolation this time round is that at six down by the break, the final result could have been so much worse!
Not for the first time it was a “lightning quick” front two who were responsible for causing all the damage. Anything down the channels or chipped over the top was food and drink to the Skidby strikers, with the Casuals’ rearguard of Biglin, McNaught, Campbell and surprisingly even Fisk left trailing in their wake. The only saving grace about the half was that poor finishing and some alert goalkeeping from Foster kept the score down to six – it should really have been ten.
In the second half the Casuals rallied to such an extent that on another day Barnett may well have had a hat-trick! There was more fight, more effort and more determination – unfortunately there were still the errors defensively that allowed the hosts to score twice more.
As with the Reserves, however, the disappointment of this and other similar results throughout what has been a disappointing campaign should not detract from the plus points; namely of even managing to field three teams from such a small base, fostering the progress of certain promising youngsters up the Eastenders ladder (with Messrs. Purse and Clubley surely the next to make the step up on a regular basis) and, of course, of providing a welcome and homely environment for those players approaching the end of their careers who still wish to don the green and yellow quarters!
Finally the Casuals would like to thank Harry Jackson and the Humbleton Recreation Club for the use of the ground and the Black Bull, Burton Pidsea for providing the post-match hospitality.
Casuals: C Foster, B Fisk (S Ward), T Biglin, I McNaught, D Campbell, A Metcalf, D Clubley, M Findley, P Brown, R Clubley (D Dawson), A Barnett
