Stiffs put through the Mill at Skidby Skidby Millers 4 – 2 Easington Utd Reserves
DEPRIVED of key personnel, the Eastenders Reserves went down to a perhaps unsurprising defeat at Skidby Millers; but it was repetition of the same old mistakes that continues to give manager Clarke his most pressing concerns. With Foster and Cousins added to an already sizeable injury list, the boss adopted a 4-5-1 formation with Luke Smith employed as the lone striker. Matty’s Purse and Findley earned promotion from the Casuals to the bench. Once again the Stiffs paid for a slow start and found themselves a goal down. This became two after Rawlings appeared to allow a shot to squirm out of his grasp and in after seemingly having saved it. Smith then put Easington back in contention, lobbing the keeper, but by the break it was 3-1; Rawls this time producing a fine initial stop but being powerless to prevent the rebound being dispatched. Brett Fisk fired narrowly over from a quickly taken corner but as the second half started, the locals were facing an uphill task. Despite plenty of effort and patches of quality football, Easington never really looked like saving the game. Another poor goal from a defensive point of view extended the Millers lead before a Skidby player replicated Smith’s lob over his own keeper for 4-2. Both subs put in heartening displays for Clarke, Findley having replaced an out-of-sorts Richardson with Purse showing some raw but real potential when thrown up alongside Smith for the final 20 minutes.
