Skidby go nap against ‘tired’ Casuals Easington Utd Casuals 0 – 5 Skidby Millers Reserves
ALTHOUGH well-beaten by the close, the Casuals’ patched-up ranks deserve much credit for giving their promotion-seeking opponents a decent game for at least an hour at Humbleton. With Kevin Brewer a no-show and Matty Findley’s hamstring packing up in the pre-match warm-up, manager Doug Clubley was left with a starting eleven that included several players just back after injury and, in the case of goalkeeper Ian Thurkettle, having just had his appendix out! Rich Clubley, back after three weeks out with tonsillitis, returned to the attack, while also returning to duty were ‘Dooley’ Cousins and Dave Clubley. Manager Clubley later praised his team for the quality of some of their football but, in the end, further injuries and simple fatigue caught up with the side. Trailing by just the solitary goal at the break, Easington continued to compete into the second half until two further goals broke their resistance. Goalkeeper ‘Ebo’ capped his return to duty with a fine display, without which Skidby’s victory would have been even more emphatic.
Easington: I Thurkettle, S Cousins, T Biglin, M Hooley, I McNaught, D Potts, D Dawson, A Swaby, M Purse, R Clubley, D Clubley
