Calamity Casuals Easington Utd Casuals 0 – 9 Patrington Stanley Utd Res
IT’S not easy to find anything constructive to say following this result – and even harder to detail a report of a game everybody connected with on the Easington side just wishes to forget! Aside from an early opportunity started and finished by Dave Clubley – clearing a corner from the edge of his own box out wide to Joni Purse before racing the full length of the field to take the return but only to fire weakly at the keeper – the Casuals had little to look back on in terms of quality football played. Other positive straws to be clutched were Darren Dawson’s first game since September, a typically honest performance from veteran Trev Biglin, the industry of Rich Clubley and a few nice touches from Mark Richardson. Oh, and the fact that manager Doug Clubley – away on family business – wasn’t there to see it. Not much to go on, I agree! And to add to the general disappointment, skipper Iain McNaught and Matty Purse both came off with worrying injuries. The Casuals must now pick themselves up ahead of a trip to Howden Town on Saturday week (30th) as well as giving serious thought to picking up the points in the New Year required to stave off an immediate return to Division 5.
