One down, three to go for Biff!
Poachers FC 4 - 4Easington Utd Reserves
HAVING set his side a target of four points from their pre-Christmas programme, Reserves asst-boss ‘Biff’ McNaught will be looking for maximum yield against Sculcoates this weekend, following this entertaining draw in Bridlington.
In a ding-dong affair the Stiffs – bolstered by the inclusion of club captain Neil Rutter and Stuart Campbell – raced into a three-goal lead at Matson Road before eventually being thankful for Craig Foster’s 83rd minute equaliser.
Foster was employed up front at the expense of Luke Smith who dropped to the bench. Rutter came into the back four with Campbell replacing the injured Pasha Brown in midfield.
Against a side lying fourth in the table at start of play, Easington started superbly. Tom McLaughlin – one of five under-17s in the ranks – struck home a stunning first goal for the Club from the best part of forty yards.
Within twenty minutes it was 3-0, Foster first latching onto Ricky Biglin’s through ball before beating centre back Reen and the keeper; then meeting ‘Bezza’ Barnett’s cross with a trademark header.
Unfortunately, aided by some of the defensive frailties all too common in recent displays, Poachers hit back to score twice before the break and set up an interesting second period.
Buoyed by their comeback, the home side levelled matters before completing the turnaround with a fourth goal on 69mins.
Thankfully, the Eastenders showed real determination to salvage a point just seven minutes from time, Foster rising to head home another Barnett cross and complete a fine hat-trick.
Easington: S Eldon, D Campbell, B Fisk, S Campbell, N Rutter, A McNaught, T McLaughlin (L Jeffery), R Biglin, C Foster, D Thompson (L Smith), A Barnett
