Casuals must end charitable donations
Brandesburton 3rds 6 – 3 Easington Utd Casuals
If their immediate return to the County League basement is not going to become a formality, the Casuals have got to stop giving teams a minimum two-goal start.
This and the need to start defending set-pieces properly is the main concern for manager Doug Clubley at the moment, following a defeat at Catwick Lane that was accompanied by the all-too familiar failings.
The locals were three goals down before they knew where they were but they at least fought back to bring themselves to within a goal by the break.
First a good passing move down the left involving Dooley Cousins, Joni Purse and Adam Swaby put Matty Purse in on the angle and the youngster powered home his fourth goal of the season via the post.
If there is one consolation for the Casuals at the moment, it’s that their attacking play is at times a joy to behold and they made it 3-2 with another quality move involving the same people as on the first goal; Joni Purse's cross this time being bundled home at the near post by ‘Bezza’ Barnett.
Unfortunately, the locals remain particularly susceptible to any aerial threat and further indecision at the back gifted Brandes’ two more goals at the start of the second half.
But back came the Casuals with a third quality goal; a move down the right that involved Dave Clubley, Dave Hurren and Matty Findley culminated in the latter’s pass to Barnett, the youngster striking home superbly from the corner of the box.
Then came what proved to be a decisive moment, when Matty Purse was freed by Swaby but was denied by the goalkeeper’s feet. The home side immediately went up the other end to score; from possible 5-4 with 10 minutes to go to 6-3. Game over.
Easington: I Thurkettle, L Hobson (D Hurren), S Cousins, A Swaby, I McNaught (B Fisk), S Ward, R Clubley (M Findley), D Clubley, J Purse, A Barnett, M Purse
