Casual run proves worthwhile
THOSE members of Doug Clubley’s Eastenders Casuals squad yet to find a run with John Clarke’s side in pre-season were given a surprising chance to shake off the cobwebs at Welwick Road last Saturday. Answering an eleventh hour request from hosts Patrington, following Skirlaugh’s cancellation, the locals struggled to put together a full eleven and were indebted to two “trialists” for helping out. In the event the Casuals, with debutant Ian Thurkettle in goal, can take heart from the quality of some of the football they managed against a side including several of the hosts’ senior squad. Anthony Barnett continued his prolific form in front of goal, bagging a brace and only being denied a hat-trick when he missed a second half penalty. Luke Hobson scored the locals’ other goal. Easington: I Thurkettle, L Jeffery, A N Other, D Dawson, I McNaught, L Hobson, T McLaughlin, M Findley, A Barnett, L Smith, S O Else (SUB: J Purse for L Smith, 46)
