Busy summer down at the Farm
EASINGTON United recently held their Annual Presentation Evening in the Granby Inn, combining it with a “Race Night” in a very successful event that raised over £700 towards Club funds.
As to the awards themselves, the main First Team beneficiary was Mike Nicholson who picked up the Players Player and Manager’s Player of the Year trophy. John Batch capped a fine first season by claiming the ‘Man of the Match’ award, while Andy Graham just held off the aforementioned Nicholson to take the Supporters Award.
At Reserve team level, Darren Thompson and Anthony Barnett shared the “gongs”; ‘Thommo’ justifying his promotion to first team level by being named ‘Man of the Match’ and Players Player, ‘Bezza’ taking both the Manager’s and Supporters Player trophies. Thompson later added to his haul by pipping the aforementioned Nicholson to the “Golden Boot” award for Top Scorer.
Rich Clubley was the big winner at Casuals level, claiming both the Players Player and Supporters awards. The other individual trophies went Dave Clubley (Manager’s Player) and Trevor Biglin (Clubman).
Ollie Musgrove was rewarded for another season of success at both First Team and ERCFA Representative level by retaining the Young Player of the Season trophy, while Jamie Cousins narrowly pipped a whole host of fellow teenagers to take the Most Promising Young Player award.
Club captain Neil Rutter was asked to step up and receive the South Holderness Cup, recently won by the Eastenders for the eighth time, before bouquets were presented to Judy Sugden, Dora Law and Sue White for their efforts and support during the season.
In closing, general manager Richard Lusmore thanked the staff at The Granby, the Black Bull (Burton Pidsea), the Easington Recreation & Sports Association (ERSA) and the Humbleton Recreation Club for their support during 2006/07.
The Committee would also like to thank the various Race Sponsors on the night: Tony Styche Ltd, Brummitt Animal Health, Red Hot Vending, BMTec, Kamto Cheng, Harrison Solway Logistics Ltd, J L Clarke Painter & Decorator, The Crown & Anchor (Kilnsea) and all who attended and/or supported in other ways, especially Judy & co (buffet) and Dave Hodgson (auctioneer).
The next major event on the calendar is the Diamond Celebration at the Country Park Inn, Hessle. Guest Speaker for the night is England ‘66 World Cup legend Jack Charlton OBE with the well-known Malcolm Lord as MC. In addition, the Event features a four-course meal, presentation of long-service awards, raffle, auction and disco. Among the items available to buy and/or win are 1966 World Cup memorabilia signed by Jack himself, signed shirts from Hull City, Hull KR and the World Cup-bound England Ladies national side, as well as Premiership clubs Liverpool, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers.
No sooner will the dust settle on this event than preparations begin in earnest for the 2007/08 campaign. In conjunction with the ERSA, work is to begin on tidying up the existing facilities at Low Farm and ensuring that the second pitch is ready for use by September. To this end the Committee are indebted to BP Exploration for the donation of a couple of changing rooms.
Training is set to resume at Endeavour on Monday 2 July, while three pre-season games have already been confirmed, the standout of which is again the visit of Hull City Juniors on Friday, 3 August (7.00pm). The other fixtures involve Leicester side Desford FC, who visit Low Farm on 28 July (3.00pm), and County League Premier Division outfit Skidby Millers who host the Eastenders on Wednesday, 8 August (6.30pm). Saturday 28 July also sees the Club involved in a Charity 5-a-side event at Kilnsea.
Finally, the Club have had a fantastic response to the School-Club Link Programme sessions, taken by Daniel Campbell, with 35 youngsters attending the first session last Tuesday week. The regular Saturday morning sessions continue to operate at Low Farm (10 – 11.30am).
