HEDON RANGERS meet holders Easington United at the Destiny Fitness Ground tonight in the Final of the South Holderness Cup (6.45pm).
Rangers are attempting to win the Cup for the first time, although they were successful in 2001 in their previous guise as Keyingham when beating Withernsea in the final.
They are the last team to have beaten Easington in the competition, via a penalty shootout success in the quarter finals at Low Farm two years ago and were also successful the last time the teams met in the league, winning 2-0 at Low Farm in March.
Easington’s 2005 defeat by tonight’s opponents was only their second in 32 matches in the South Holderness Cup, a record that stretches back to 1997 (not including 2001 when Humber Premier League commitments prevented entry). This evening they go in search of an unprecedented eighth win in their last ten attempts.
Both teams are without key leaders tonight; Hedon being under the control of asst-boss Dave Thompson and the experienced Steve Brough due to the absence of manager Kenny Harrison, while Easington are without assistant manager Dave Walmsley.
The Cup Committee would like to remind spectators that all proceeds from match programme sales and pitch-side collections are again going to the Neurosurgical Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary. To this end they also wish to thank tonight’s match officials, Mr. Bill Pharaoh, Mr. Simon Moore and Mr. Paul Andrews for donating their services free of charge, Jo and staff at Destiny Fitness for the post-match hospitality and of course Alan Coopland of CFS Fuel Supplies for his continued sponsorship of the competition.
