CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
Following their win over Hedon, The Eastenders now entertain Patrington Stanley United Reserves this Saturday (1.00pm) for a place in the semi-finals of the South Holderness Cup. Manager Mack hopes to add Steve Harrod and Kevin Milner to the fourteen on duty last week.
Despite benefiting to the tune of 6pts, Reserves boss John Clarke was left somewhat frustrated by the League’s ratification of 1-0 wins against Boothferry Rangers and Poachers FC – both sides stating their unwillingness and/or inability to fulfil the fixture. The results leave Clarke’s side requiring just a point from the trip to Sculcoates Reserves to confirm a place above the bottom two. Before then the Stiffs turn their attention to the South Holderness Cup, in which they entertain Roos tomorrow evening (6.45pm) with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
The Casuals were also without a league game last Saturday but played the annual “Raggy Game” on Sunday (see below). They were then set to entertain Division 4 promotion hopefuls DADS FC at Low Farm on Tuesday before rounding off their season at Skidby Millers Reserves this Saturday.
“Raggy” Remembered
Players past and present gathered at Low Farm on Sunday for the ninth playing of the Michael “Raggy” Hudson Memorial match between the current Casuals and a team of Ex-Easington/Holderness Casuals. On a gorgeous afternoon and after a “minute’s applause” in Mike’s memory, the game that ensued saw both sides produce some fine, passing football with the Ex-Casuals triumphing by three goals to nil.
Young Tom McLaughlin, playing alongside “Dad” in the same side for the first time, scored twice; the first capping off a fine move with a pass into the bottom corner and the second an exquisite 25-yard chip that gave Rawlings no chance. In between ‘Mad Dog’ Bradbury capped another fine move with a rasping finish. The win could have been even more handsome had Kevin Appleyard – finally getting his wish to play up front – not repaid manager Slush by wasting three early opportunities!
At the other end the current Casuals passed up chances of their own and Iain McNaught was denied what looked a certain goal by a brilliant diving stop from Nige ‘The Cat’ Rutter (deputising for his brother and first-choice keeper Adge, who’d entered the proper “Raggy” spirit by getting so ‘bladdered’ the night before he failed to make the game!).
At the close John Clarke stepped up to receive the Shield on behalf of the winning team while Ged Morrow, making his first appearance in the fixture, took home the Geoff Redfearn Memorial Trophy for Man of the Match.
Our thanks go to the Hudson and Redfearn families for their continued support, ‘Dooley’ Cousins for manfully stepping into the refereeing void, Chris and Dora for the kit duties, Judy for addressing the brisk trade at the Tea Hut (and the weeding!) and Jean & staff at The Crown & Anchor for the excellent post-match refreshments.
Casuals: C Rawlings, L Jeffery, P Morrow, D Dawson, M Findley, P Brown, I McNaught, D Campbell, D Clubley, R Clubley, C Smith, S Ward, B Fisk, A Barnett
Ex-Casuals: N Rutter, I Buttery, J Clarke, A McNaught, C Foster, H Robinson, S McLaughlin, R Biglin, M Bradbury, T McLaughlin, K Appleyard, C Redfearn, R Lusmore, S Nicholson, M Jeffery, G Morrow, T Dutton
