Holderness Advertiser 25th April
THE 2007 South Holderness Cup kicks off this week with the three Preliminary Round ties taking place. Newly-crowned ER County League Division 2 champions Patrington Stanley United were set to play Humber Premier League Premier Division side Hedon Rangers last night in perhaps the most intriguing of the ties.
Tomorrow there’s an all-HPL affair at Low Farm, where holders Easington United entertain Hedon United, and on Saturday Paull Wanderers of the Amateur League entertain HPL Premier boys Withernsea.
Eleven teams have entered this season’s competition, which is being kindly sponsored by CFS Fuel Supplies and sees all proceeds go to the Neurosurgical Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary. The final is scheduled to take place at the Destiny Fitness Ground, Saltend on Wednesday, 30 May (6.45pm).
In the absence of Kevin Milner and Stuart Campbell, Easington United manager Dave Mackay-Dundas is set to hand sixteen-year-old left back Paul Morrow a start against Hedon United with the rest of the squad being very similar to that which won at Withernsea in the last league game.
For Hedon, uncertainty surrounds the very future of the Club. They’ve endured something of a rollercoaster campaign since almost folding back in the summer and player-manager Dave Gatti deserves credit for having seen things through.
Having used the recent league game at Barton to make his “swansong” appearance, in which he had the privilege of partnering his son Sam (making his first start) up front in a 5-4 defeat, victory in a competition Hedon last won just two years ago would provide a fitting farewell.

CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
The Eastenders entertain Hedon United this evening (6.30pm) in the Preliminary Round of the South Holderness Cup. With regular left backs Kevin Milner and Stuart Campbell both absent, youngster Paul Morrow looks set to be handed a first team debut.
Meanwhile the Reserves are scheduled to be at home to Boothferry Rangers on Saturday, although at time of going to print there is some doubt as to whether or not the visitors will travel. In addition, Poachers FC – also still to visit the Farm – have announced they are conceding the points. This remains to be ratified by the League.
The Casuals have no game on Saturday but entertain DADS FC at Low Farm next Tuesday (6.30pm).
STOP PRESS:
Sunday sees the annual "Raggy Game" (Michael Hudson Memorial Shield) take place at Low Farm between the current Eastenders Casuals squad and an "Ex-Casuals XI" comprising members of the former Holderness Casuals and Easington Casuals Sunday outfits. Kick-off at Low Farm is at 2.00pm.
