EASINGTON United moved – temporarily at least – back into the HPL Premier Division top four with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over near neighbours Withernsea at Low Farm.
In a scrappy game that was disrupted by strong winds, the Eastenders did just about enough to earn all three points although The Seasiders were left fuming by two controversial refereeing decisions, one of which affected the winning goal.
That came on 66mins when Withernsea goalkeeper Phil Richardson dropped Daniel Medforth’s free-kick into his own net. The visitors were adamant that the goalkeeper’s fumble came about as result of a foul by Easington striker Darren Thompson but referee Steve Wade ruled otherwise.
Earlier, the Seasiders had seen what appeared strong claims for a penalty turned away when James Gell went down under pressure from Andy Graham.
Whilst disappointed with his team’s overall performance and generous in his praise of the visitors’ “application”, Eastenders boss Dave Mackay-Dundas pointed to his side’s five missed clear-cut chances as evidence of their worthiness of victory.
In contrast, Easington keeper Kevin Appleyard was forced into just the one real save, albeit a superb one late on to deny Gell.
Stripped of five players in the week leading up to the game, the Eastenders are faced with further shortages this Saturday when they entertain Hornsea Town in their final home league match.
Rob Kamis, Steve Harrod, Paul Wilkinson and Dave Walmsley are all set to miss out again, while John Batch is suspended and Ian Barrow doubtful with an ankle injury. Ollie Musgrove should come into contention after spending last week on East Riding Junior representative duty.

CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
All three teams are in action this Saturday with the commitments brought on by the Easter Weekend adding to an already over-stretched squad list. First Team manager Dave Mackay-Dundas is without Rob Kamis and the suspended John Batch for the home game against Hornsea Town, while it looks highly unlikely that Dave Walmsley, Steve Harrod and Paul Wilkinson will figure. With Ian Barrow having picked up a worrying injury last week and Andy Graham struggling with a back complaint, it could be a very testing few days for manager Mack. Ollie Musgrove should return to action following further representative duty with the ER County Juniors.
Reserve team boss John Clarke is definitely without the holidaying duo of Tom McLaughlin and Jamie Cousins this weekend, while Craig Foster must be ranked very doubtful following the injury sustained at Reckitts. Thankfully, Paul Morrow could be set to return but any further call-ups will have a knock-on effect on Doug Clubley’s Casuals who face the division’s highest scorers Howden Town at Humbleton.
Other News:
Thanks to Alan Saxton (Plumbing & Heating Engineer) for last week’s match sponsorship. The winning Golden Goal time was 66mins.
Thanks also to Tony Finn of Withernsea for his assistance with Ian Barrow’s injury during Saturday’s game.
There is no Junior Coaching at Low Farm this Saturday morning – it returns on 14 April. Instead, this Saturday sees a Coffee Morning taking place in the Community Hall in aid of the Junior Section funds.
Finally, anybody requiring tickets for the Club’s Diamond Celebration Event at the Country Park Inn, Hessle on Saturday, 30 June at which Jack Charlton OBE is guest speaker, should ring Craig (01964 630933) or Neil (01964 626402).
