Holderness Advertiser 14th March
EASINGTON United’s run of four successive Humber Premier League wins came to a disappointing end as bottom club Hedon Rangers consigned them to a surprise 2-0 defeat at Low Farm.
Aside from a penalty shootout success in a South Holderness Cup tie three years ago, the result constituted Kenny Harrison’s team’s first win over the Eastenders in eight years and seventeen meetings since returning to Saturday football as Keyingham in 1999.
The visitors claimed the points courtesy of two late goals. On 78mins, Andy O’Loughlin scrambled the ball home at a corner before Mike Dowd wrapped up the points with a sweet 25-yard strike five minutes from time.
Easington’s disappointment was compounded by a worrying injury to striker Rob Kamis.
Manager Dave Mackay-Dundas acknowledged his opponents were worthy of the win. He said, “I never thought I’d say that an opposition team wanted a local derby more than a team of mine but that was certainly the case today.” The boss was left bitterly disappointed with his side’s lacklustre display in which Kevin Milner’s first half shot against the bar constituted their best opportunity.
The Eastenders are without a fixture this weekend and return to action at Barton Town OB Reserves on Saturday week (24th). Attention this week therefore turns to the Club’s two County League squads who both face important league cup ties. The Reserves entertain Premier Division leaders Old George at Low Farm in round three of the Senior Cup, while at Humbleton the Casuals entertain Dads FC for a place in the semi-finals of the Harold Robinson Cup.

CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
The first team are without a fixture this Saturday. They return to action at Barton Town OB Reserves on Saturday week (24th). In addition to raising morale, manager Mack also has serious injury concerns over Rob Kamis following the striker’s withdrawal with a knee problem during Saturday’s defeat.
Attention therefore centres on the Reserves and the Casuals who are both involved in league cup ties. In the League Senior Cup, the Stiffs entertain Premier Division leaders Old George at Low Farm with a quarter-final tie away at Reckitts Reserves awaiting the winners. John Clarke’s side go into the game with the unexpected bonus of 3pts ‘gifted’ to them last Saturday following Northfield’s inability to raise a team for the scheduled league game – a result that lifted them to fifth in the table. Aside from the injured Luke Jeffery, the boss should have a near full-strength squad to choose from.
There’s a place in the semi-finals of the Harold Robinson Cup awaiting the Casuals if – and it’s a big ‘if’ – they can overcome Division 4 title favourites DADS FC at Humbleton. Buoyed by back-to-back league wins, Doug Clubley has Darren Dawson and Adam Swaby expected back for duty although Matty Findley remains likely to be sidelined by injury.
It looks likely that one of the squads will contain new signing Paul Morrow after the Hedon youngster showed up well at Monday’s first training session. He joins the exciting current crop of teenagers present at Low Farm.
Your support at either tie would be much appreciated.
Other News:
Junior Coaching sessions continue at Low Farm this and every Saturday (10-11.30am). Please check with Dan (07703 517525) or Rich (01964 650133) with regards to on problems with the pitch etc.
The Club would like to thank ABB Ltd (based at BP Exploration) for the new warm-up sweat tops currently being provided to all three teams.
Finally, anybody requiring tickets for the Club’s Diamond Celebration Event at the Country Park Inn, Hessle on Saturday, 30 June at which Jack Charlton OBE is guest speaker, should ring Craig (01964 630933) or Neil (01964 626402).
