LAST week’s home game against Hornsea Town was Easington United’s third Humber Premier League fixture to fall victim to the weather in the past four weeks. Match referee Paul Cook declared the Low Farm pitch unfit on Friday afternoon and with more rain forecast, doubts already exist as to whether Saturday’s match against Hedon Rangers will survive.
Rangers were the Eastenders’ last opponents, three weeks ago. On that occasion two second half goals from Darren Thompson helped Easington to a 4-0 win at Destiny Fitness.
The visitors are bottom of the Premier Division but put up a spirited showing at home to leaders Sculcoates Amateurs last week, when only a solitary 89th minute goal gave the title favourites victory.
Easington will be without the suspended John Batch, while Ollie Musgrove is on duty with the ERCFA Juniors and Stuart Campbell has joined the Royal Navy. Dan Potts may therefore earn a recall to the squad after coming through 120 minutes for the Reserves at Sculcoates Amateurs last weekend.
Sadly for Potts and his team-mates, the game ended in a 2-1 win for Sculcoates, giving them a place in the quarter-finals of the County League H.E. Dean Cup. The winning goal came just five minutes from the end of extra-time and followed on a late equaliser for the hosts after Luke Smith had given Easington the lead.
There was better news from Humbleton where two goals apiece from Matty Purse and sub Chris Smith helped the Casuals come from behind to beat Holme Rovers Reserves 4-2 in Division 4.
