FOR the second year running Easington United’s hopes of repeating their 2004 success in the HPL Grays League Cup were halted at the second round stage by Hornsea Town at the Hollis Recreation Ground. Town substitute Chris Langley proved his side’s match-winner as the hosts followed up last year’s 1-0 win with a 2-1 success this time.
Langley struck in the 50th and 75th minutes to settle an entertaining affair that both teams felt was marred only by some questionable officialdom. In between, Steve Harrod came off the bench to level matters at one apiece on 61mins.
The cup exit leaves manager Dave Mackay Dundas with a job on his hands in lifting his players for the remaining six league games, beginning with the visit of near neighbours Withernsea to Low Farm this Saturday (2.00pm).
The Eastenders, who lost striker Paul Wilkinson to UniBond League side Frickley Athletic last week, will also be without Ollie Musgrove (on ERCFA Rep duty) and youngster Luke Jeffery (holiday). Danny Medforth is a doubt having picked up a knock at Hornsea.
The manager may therefore be tempted to look at Darren Thompson. The young striker bagged a brace for the Reserves last week in their 4-3 win over Reckitts in the County League Premier Division, taking his season’s tally for the season to twelve; veteran Craig Foster also scored twice. However, there was not such good news for a depleted Casuals side in Division 4. They were beaten 5-0 by Skidby Millers Reserves at Humbleton.

CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
Its ‘Holderness Derby Day’ again at Low Farm this Saturday with Withernsea the visitors (2.00pm). The Seasiders will have been boosted by their impressive win at Hedon United last weekend and are always fired up for this particular game. Manager Mack is without Ollie Musgrove (ERCFA Rep duty) and Luke Jeffery is a doubt having picked up a knock for his junior side on Sunday. Meanwhile, Paul Wilkinson’s departure could put striker Darren Thompson in line for a call-up, the youngster having taken his tally in the Reserves to 12 for the season last Saturday.
The Stiffs go to Northfield Athletic looking to avenge their 4-1 home defeat of last year. Manager John Clarke is without youngsters Tom McLaughlin and Jamie Cousins (both skiing) and will await first team selection with interest.
The Casuals are set to entertain Brandesburton 3rds at Humbleton. Manager Clubley faces his usual Friday night head count but Matty Findley (hamstring) and Trevor Biglin must both be considered doubtful.
