EASINGTON United go to second-placed Westella & Willerby looking to build on another solid display against Beverley Town last weekend.
Mike Nicholson’s 27th minute goal gave The Eastenders a 1-0 win at Norwood. In a game of few clear chances the midfielder seized on a half-cleared corner to fire home his ninth goal of the season from 25 yards.
New signing Rob Kamis showed up well when coming off the bench and set both Danny Medforth and Paul Wilkinson up for good second half chances. Beverley goalkeeper Mark Cockin saved the first but could only halt Wilkinson with a foul for which he was dismissed.
At the other end, Kevin Appleyard produced two fine stops from free kicks, while the Easington back four was again led by an impressive display from John Batch.
Manager Dave Mackay-Dundas should have Andy Graham available for selection this weekend, following completion of his suspension, while Stuart Campbell and Jamie Cousins could also come back into contention after missing the Beverley game through injury.
A win for Easington could lift them to within 3pts of their opponents although, despite dropping points lately, Westella have not been beaten in the league since August.
Following successive postponements, the Eastenders Reserves hope to return to action at home to Old George in the County League Senior Cup. The Casuals go to Long Riston Reserves in Division 4 having drawn 3-3 at Skirlaugh last Saturday in a game that saw Iain McNaught make his 600th Easington appearance, which he marked with a goal and a booking!

Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
There’s a big incentive for the First Team to extend their recent winning form this Saturday – victory at Westella & Willerby will lift them to within 3pts of their hosts who are currently lying second in the table. Manager Dave Mack hopes to have Andy Graham, Stu Campbell and Jamie Cousins all available for selection again, following suspension and injury.
After two successive postponements the Reserves will be looking to return to action this week when Old George re-visit the Farm for a League Senior Cup tie. Earlier this season, John Clarke’s side became the first to take any league points off the Goole outfit, courtesy of a 2-2 draw. The Casuals’ recent “revival” faces another stern test when they visit Long Riston Reserves in Division 4.
Other News:
The Management Committee of Easington United AFC would like to officially congratulate Iain McNaught on his magnificent achievement last weekend.
Thanks to everybody who supported Saturday’s Coffee Morning, which raised £130 for Club Funds.
Following the water-logging that ruled out the scheduled first Junior Coaching Session last Saturday, it’s hoped to begin them at Low Farm this Saturday (10-11.30am). The sessions are open to boys & girls aged under 12 and anybody interested should call Daniel Campbell on 07703 517525. In view of last week’s disruption, it is again advisable to contact Daniel with regards to any potential problems with the weather and/or pitch.
