BACK-TO-BACK defeats by Humber Premier League leaders Sculcoates Amateurs somewhat spoilt Easington United’s holiday period, although the differing nature of the two reversals has at least given manager Dave Mackay-Dundas something to build on in the New Year.
Having signed off 2006 with an embarrassing defensive performance away at the leaders, resulting in a 6-1 scoreline, The Eastenders went some way to restoring their reputation at Low Farm last Saturday.
A much-improved defensive showing (particularly by new look central partnership Stuart Campbell and John Batch) accompanied a better overall performance although, in truth, the result was never really in doubt from the moment Mark Smith fired Sculcoates ahead on the stroke of half-time.
The same player added a second on 66mins to complete a 2-0 win and maintain Scully’s healthy lead at the top of the HPL.
The Eastenders are at home this Saturday with Mackay-Dundas wanting them to “kick-on” from last week’s improvement against struggling Hedon United.
Easington will be without the suspended Andy Graham, while Ollie Musgrove is on ERCFA Junior Rep duty.
Graham figured for the Reserves on Saturday as they gained a much-needed win in the County League Premier Division. A Darren Thompson brace and goals from Craig Foster and Anthony Barnett earned Easington a 4-2 win at FC Ridings.
There was joy also for the Casuals whose makeshift squad moved off the bottom of Division 4 thanks to a 4-2 success at Withernsea. Rich Clubley grabbed a hat-trick with Matty Findley adding the fourth.

CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
The First Team entertain Hedon United at Low Farm this weekend. Andy Graham is suspended and Ollie Musgrove is away with the ERCFA Junior squad; otherwise manager Mack hopes to have a full-strength squad to choose from.
The Reserves are at Skidby Millers hoping to build on last week’s result and go closer to securing their Premier Division future. As for the Casuals, a mix-up with the fixtures means they are now scheduled to “entertain” Holme Rovers Reserves. However, the HPL fixture at Low Farm and FC Robin’s game at Humbleton has ruled out both likely venues. Players are advised to check with Doug (01964 650376) for latest news.
Other News:
Thanks to Middlegate Europe for Saturday’s sponsorship. The winning Golden Goal time was 44 minutes.
Best wishes to Dave Hurren ahead of his impending service for Queen & Country in Afghanistan.
Finally, the Club is beginning Junior Coaching Sessions at Low Farm on Saturday, 20 January (10-11.30am). The sessions are open to boys & girls aged under 12 and anybody interested should call Daniel Campbell on 07703 517525.
