Holderness Advertiser 13th December
ANY lingering hopes Easington United may have entertained of challenging for the Humber Premier League title were virtually extinguished thanks to their own indiscipline against Hutton Cranswick at Low Farm.
Having been hoisted almost back into contention by the midweek resignation from the league of Bridlington Town Reserves (and the expunging of all points registered by and against The Seasiders) the Eastenders passed up the chance to capitalise, losing 4-3 to one of their nearest rivals.
When excellent goals from Mike Nicholson and Danny Medforth twice pulled them back into things and Cranswick lost their goalkeeper to injury and captain to a red card, the game was theirs for the taking at 2-2.
But Easington committed footballing suicide by going all out for the win whilst forgetting to shut the back door. This allowed two goals in as many minutes from Tom Cooper and Ryan Cairns to grab the visitors an unlikely but fully deserved victory; Jamie Cousins’ injury time reply provided no consolation.
In addition, skipper Andy Graham was sent off and there was the unseemly spectacle of two team mates squaring up to each other while the game was going on.
All in all it provides manager Dave Mackay-Dundas with no shortage of thinking points ahead of this week’s home game against Pocklington Town.
He will hope to have Craig Sharpless back after work commitments delayed his full debut last weekend. But Craig Smalley is still suspended and Kevin Milner looks likely to miss out again through injury.

CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
The Club is delighted to announce it has acquired the services of Jamie Heard. The 23-year-old right back was at Hull City where he played one game in the LDV Vans Trophy before moving on to appear 27 times for Chester in their Conference winning season. After spells with Morecambe and Harrogate Town, the player then played for Australian side Dandenong Thunder in the Victoria State League before moving back to England. It had originally been hoped to sign Jamie prior to Saturday’s game against Hutton Cranswick but International Clearance from the FA could not be obtained in time.
Heard is almost certain to be involved when the Eastenders play their final home game of 2006 this Saturday against Pocklington Town with manager Mack determined to make-up for Saturday’s second half disappointment. Changes could be afoot although Craig Smalley is still suspended and Kevin Milner may not recover from the ankle injury that kept him out last week. Craig Sharpless could be in line for his home debut should the former Winterton man be free of work commitments, while the manager has also not ruled out the possibility of a first team return for club captain Neil Rutter.
The Reserves go to Bridlington side Poachers hoping to arrest the run of two defeats. Asst-mgr McNaught will hope to have more options available to him than was the case at Goole last Saturday and will no doubt eye the Rutter situation with interest.
As for Casuals boss Clubley, he will again take what’s left as his side strive to move off the bottom when they face a revived Patrington Stanley Utd Reserves. At time of going to print, moves were afoot to switch this game to Welwick Road following problems with the second pitch at Low Farm. Players should check with Doug Clubley beforehand.
Other News:
Following the successful “Neet Oot” a couple of weeks back, players and supporters are reminded of the by now traditional “Festive Sunday Sesh” this weekend down Beverley Road, beginning in the Haworth Arms at 2.30pm.
Thanks to Harry Jackson and The Humbleton Recreation Club for the use of the ground last Saturday.
Thanks to Zest for Living for Saturday’s HPL match sponsorship; the winning Golden Goal time was 6 minutes.
