EASINGTON United go into a blank weekend on the back of another hefty defeat suffered last Saturday.
The Eastenders exited the East Riding Senior Cup at the first hurdle, going down 7-2 at holders Sculcoates Amateurs.
Most of the damage was done inside the first half-hour. A controversial Lee Benham penalty after just two minutes was followed by goals from Ricky Field (3mins), Danny Drayton (18mins) and Dave Gowans (28mins) before Easington offered just the hint of a comeback, with two goals in as many minutes on the stroke of half-time, from Ian Barrow and a John Sowerby ‘own goal’.
Benham’s second on the hour effectively settled matters, with Mark Smith adding further goals in the 82nd and 90th minutes.
Manager Dave Mackay-Dundas admitted to being at a loss as to explain his side’s sudden alarming loss of form: “We just aren’t with it at the moment. I admit to making my fair share of mistakes and the system I tried on Saturday obviously didn’t work. But we’ll keep working hard to try and sort things out; we have not suddenly become a bad team.”
The Eastenders’ cause hasn’t been helped by the absence of both first and second choice goalkeepers, although replacements Chris Walmsley and veteran Steve Eldon were hardly to blame for any of the 13 goals conceded in the past two weeks.
Easington’s three-team County FA Cup involvement was completely ended for another year by the Casuals’ exit from the Junior Country Cup. Brothers Matty and Joni Purse scored in a 4-2 defeat by Leven at Low Farm.
There was better news from the Reserves. Four goals from Darren Thompson helped them to a thumping 5-0 win at Reckitts Reserves in the ER County League Premier Division.

CLUB NOTES
Forthcoming Fixtures / Team News:
With the senior squad inactive this weekend the Reserves take centre stage. They entertain Northfield Athletic in the first of back-to-back Premier Division home games (leaders Old George come to Low Farm on Saturday week).
Manager Clarke will hope to keep faith with those on duty last Saturday, although there are slight doubts over both Tom McLaughlin and Luke Jeffery who picked up knocks with their junior sides on Sunday.
Ricky Biglin should be available again but both McNaught and Dawson must be rated doubtful.
Casuals boss Doug Clubley hopes to welcome Dave Hurren, Matty Findley and Brett Fisk back to the fold for the away game at Brandesburton 3rds.
Other News:
The Club received a welcome piece of good news last week courtesy of the East Riding County FA’s award of a “Certificate to recognise good behaviour with Charter Standard Clubs”. The award, which is recognition of the good behaviour by coaches, club officials, parents and spectators during the playing season, will be presented by a member of the ERCFA Football Development Team at a time convenient to the Club.
The “Diamond Celebration” polo shirts are now available to buy, priced £15.00. All enquiries should be directed via Craig Foster on 01964-630933.
