EASINGTON United missed the chance to open up a gap at the top of the Humber Premier League when they allowed a depleted but spirited Bridlington Town Reserves to snatch a point at Low Farm.
Dominating large tracts of the game the Eastenders finally broke their opponents down on 68mins, when Gavin Thurkettle blasted home from close range.
But they were denied their third successive victory when Darren Fogg broke clear to score just three minutes from time.
Manager Dave Mackay-Dundas was understandably frustrated. He said afterwards, “We haven’t learnt the lessons of the Beverley game and today we’ve got punished.
“We struggled to make the most of good possession in dangerous areas and when we finally did take the lead, we failed to close the game out and got punished for errors at the back.”
The result leaves Easington in third place on goal difference, behind Hutton Cranswick and North Ferriby Utd Reserves who they meet at Low Farm this weekend in the first round of the Grays League Cup.
Just three weeks ago the two sides fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw in the league.
The Eastenders could welcome Craig Smalley and Mike Nicholson back after injury but Steve Harrod is still out. Tony Hunt is also absent while Ollie Musgrove is in ERCFA Junior Representative action.
Easington Reserves opened their County League Premier season with a 2-0 defeat at Boothferry Rangers. This Saturday they go to Howden Amateurs.

The Eastenders could welcome Craig Smalley and Mike Nicholson back after injury for Saturday’s clash with North Ferriby Reserves in the Grays Cup (2.00pm). However, Steve Harrod and Tony Hunt are both absent, while Ollie Musgrove is in ERCFA Junior Representative action.
The Reserves go to Howden Amateurs, hoping to bounce back from their opening day defeat. Manager John Clarke has injury doubts over Mike Hooley but could have several other members, including assistant ‘Biff’ McNaught, all back in the fold.
Meanwhile the draws for the ER County FA Cup competitions haven’t been kind to the senior squad or the Reserves.
