EASINGTON United go into tonight’s friendly against the ER County Juniors (6.30pm) buoyed by having gained their first win of the summer last Thursday.
This came via a hard-fought 3-2 success at HPL Division 1 side Brandesburton.
A game of fluctuating fortunes at Catwick Lane was eventually settled just three minutes from time by a goal of real quality from Phil Jackman. The Eastenders’ other goals came from Ian Barrow and Gavin Thurkettle.
Manager Dave Mackay-Dundas was very disappointed with the defending on both Brandesburton goals but pleased with his side’s attacking play. He said, “When two of the three strikers score and the other hits the post, I’ve got to be reasonably happy”.
The win continued the improvement shown in the previous week’s 3-1 defeat by Hull City Juniors, a game that was effectively decided by another excellent goal, this time from City’s Matthew Plummer.
The Tigers’ visit saw the Eastenders unveil their new Sixtieth Anniversary playing strip, kindly sponsored by Harrison Solway Logistics Ltd.
After tonight’s County Juniors’ fixture, the Eastenders entertain Leicester League side Desford on Saturday, with back-to-back games taking place involving both senior and reserve squads. Kick-off times at Low Farm are 1.00pm and 3.00pm.
The occasion will see the return of former Easington favourite Adam Verity, now playing his football in the Leicestershire village following two successful seasons at Low Farm.
